So I’ve heard over and over again that Law School is like high school. There have been little rumors and jokes and whatnot flying around all year, but this past week has seen, by far, the biggest of them. I’m not going to name names because, a) most of y’all don’t really know anyone anyway and b) for those of you who do, it’s much more intriguing that way.
So one of my classmates got accused by some other classmates of talking shit about a third party. He claims that he wasn’t. The victim of the alleged shit-talking confronted alleged shit-talker (hereinafter “AST) and things were all sorted out. So far, so good, right? Sounds like a mature and reasonable way to solve a problem. But was that the end of it? Lord no.
Instead, AST spent the better part of two days talking about nothing but the accusation and how awful it was. Well, he probably talked about other things… but not during any of the handful of times that I heard him talking. Funnier still is the fact that nobody I asked had heard about this allegation prior to him talking about it himself.
Adding to the already mounting hilarity is the widely accepted notion that AST actually does a fair degree of shit-talking, though it’s usually under the auspices of ‘jokes’. To his credit, he does have something negative to say about everyone, so I guess it’s fair.
But we’re not content to stick with High School drama, though… no, sir… we took a trip back to grade school when AST went and tattled to the professor in whose class he was accused of talking shit. Wasn’t that classy and mature?1
So, instead of trying to clear up the misunderstanding, AST was content to bad-mouth his accusers and then go tattle to the teacher. I can just see this guy’s future court-room career: “Counselor, you will stop sticking your tongue out at opposing counsel.” … “BUT YOUR HONNNNNORRR!! HE STARTED IT!!!”1
Anyway, welcome to 3rd grade! I think they all need timeouts.
UPDATE (10/30):
AST cleared up his side of the story. He asserts that there are some factual inaccuracies, but didn’t delineate them, so let’s just say that the facts of this post are substantially disputed.
Also, it seems as though his handling of the situation was out of character and he admitted that it was probably not the best way to do it. Most importantly, though, he says all parties actually involved are now on the same page… so that’s a huge plus. Kudos to everyone involved for getting it settled.
My apologies if this post did anything to prolong or worsen the drama.
1 - Correction: AST went to talk to the prof about moving seats and, from what I gather, the results from that converation which appear to be caused by tattling were not, in fact. My bad.

OK not to encourage this story but what were the grounds for AST’s talk to the professor? I mean WTF is the prof going to do for him? I bet this kid got beat up a lot in high school. More so I bet he gets beat up in Law School.
