I’m taking a little break from studying to post about yesterday which was, by all estimates, way more fun than I’m entitled to. Seriously.
So the day started off with fun because I got to wake up at 6:30! Yay! I love the mornings. You might find this hard to believe, but I was actually too chipper for Hilary. I was a ray of sunshine. It was awesome. As though that were not fun enough, I had the privilege of navigating for Hil as we drove in (fairly mild, by DC standards) rush-hour traffic to get her to work. It only took us 1:15 to go 26 miles, so I think we were making good time. When we got there she went to work and I started Pete’s Big DC Adventure.
I hiked it to the nearest metro station — it wasn’t too far away — and headed to DC Superior Ct. to meet Julie (fellow 1L) who was going to watch some of the goings-on at the courthouse and visit some folks she used to work with. We saw all sorts of incompetent lawyering, which she promised me was not the norm. Around noon I left and headed to meet Sarah (who you might remember as a bridesmaid from my trip to the Ruckii’s wedding) we grabbed lunch at Potbelly and walked it to a park because it was absolutely gorgeous yesterday in the city. We talked about work, and life, and beer pong. No, really. After that I was going to meet back up with Julie for some sight-seeing, but she had called and something else came up, so it was back to plan A of hanging out by myself.
I hadn’t been to DC since the WWII Memorial was put up, so I decided to check it out. I took quote a few pictures and some of them even don’t suck. After that I walked around a little bit and went to the Holocaust Museum. Sometimes I hate people. Really disturbing the whole thing was — and the fact that some people pretend like it never happened and other people try to exploit it for political gain by comparing their opponents to Hitler is even less palatable to me now. I mean, we all know what happened, but seeing the pictures and belongings, and models of crematoriums, and videos makes it more tangible. Anyway… by the end of the tour (I spent like 2 hours in there and still felt like I rushed through) I had developed a bit of a headache.
I had planned on hitting up the Int’l Spy Museum, but I didn’t figure I’d enjoy it with the headache, so I did a bit of exploring and then headed to DuPont Circle where I had dinner plans. I had a while to wait, but I figured if there wasn’t anything interesting to do in DuPont Circle I could go elsewhere. I found a little pharmacy and then read The Post at Books-a-million for a while relaxing and willing my headache away. By the time I made it to dinner the headache was gone.
Dinner was the date to which Charlsie had previously referred. This was, by all estimates, one of the weirdest things I’ve ever done. No, really. See… Charlsie is great, but we have never actually met in person. We’re internet friends. But that’s not the weird part. The weird part is that I met her two friends for dinner last night at Front Page so just to make it really clear for the slower among you, I met two people that I didn’t know for dinner because they were friends with a girl I’ve never met.
…let me give you a moment to let that sink in…
But the weirdest thing, is that it wasn’t really weird at all. Jennifer and Emily were a lot of fun and we got along fabulously. But that’s not what we told Charlsie when we called from dinner.
We pretended like we had just called it a night and that it was a disaster. She didn’t believe me at first, but when Jennifer called a minute later and told her the same thing she started to worry, I think. Another phone call or two of keeping up the story and we started to feel a little bad that she was maybe stressing about it. (I think she was more nervous about the meeting than the three of us combined) We called back and let her in on the joke and we all had a good laugh. Anyway, it was a good time.
After dinner I called Hil and she was nice enough to pick me up at the metro station and carry me1 back to her apt.
As was expected, I had a great time and I still love DC. I may like it more than San Diego (previously my second favorite city). Today is just a day of work, studying, and hanging out. Tomorrow is a little more of the same except that Seth was able to score us tickets for the VA Tech / Maryland game in College Park… so that will be fun.
Anyway… I really need to get back to the studying.
1 - I’m trying to practice using my southern terms since I’m going be in Alabama in three days. Weird.

Pete! Yes, she was definitely sweating it. Poor Charlise! (that’s what I call her)Have lots of fun the rest of your stay! Enjoyed meeting you!
I’ll be at the game — would have offered to hook you up with tickets myself, except it’s been damned hard to get them if you don’t have a Twerp connection. Gimme a buzz if you want to meet up — my cell is in your ‘feedback’ inbox.
Yay for southern terms!
My dear friend Pete,
If you ever call me again at 4:40 AM PST (on a week day nonetheless) just to say hi and share with me that “it’s a beautiful day,” I will be forced to hurt you and scatter your body parts throughout the country. ;P
Josh: I’ll swing by if it dies down, I think we’re in Lot 1 but I don’t know for sure yet.
Carrie: turn-about is fair play. Quit calling me at 3:30 and I’ll quit calling you at 4:30.
Dudes. We called you at 3:30 AM CST on a WEEKEND with absolutely titillating news that WE had to share with you. ;P
