Roll. Damn. Tide.

When ‘Bama went up 14-0 in the first five minutes, I was leery… Florida has shown flashes of brilliance at times this season, and Meyer has shown that he can score points. It was way too early to start celebrating, or so I thought.

At half time we were up 24-3 and I was pretty confident that our defense was good enough to keep Florida to 21 points in the second half… so I figured we had to score one more time to lock it up.

…but we didn’t. All we needed was that first 87 yard touchdown pass to The Man.

Two maxims seem appropriate right now:

“Offense wins games, but Defense wins championships.”

and

“If they can’t score, they can’t win.”

I will say, however, that as happy as I was with the win, the image of Tyrone Prothro’s leg snapping in half kept me from celebrating properly. We’ve got enough weapons that that won’t kill us, but goodness gracious I feel for that kid. He’s done so much for ‘Bama football in his career that I hate to see him go down like that.

Regardless… I’m absolutely PUMPED that I’m going to be there to help welcome the Vols into Tuscaloosa in a few weeks. If they thought they had a hard time with Florida, they’d better bring their A game because if they don’t, we’re going to own them the same way we did the Gators.

From the ESPN Article

It was over when…
Tyrone Prothro took a Brodie Croyle pass and went 88 yards to put the Tide up 7-0. With the way Bama’s D played, that was plenty.

Gameball goes to…
Croyle. Alabama’s signal caller was an efficient 15-of-17 for 287 yards and tossed three touchdown passes.

Stat of the game 166:
The last time the Gators didn’t score a TD was 166 games ago against Mississippi State in 1992.

I’m glad Alabama got to give Florida their first loss, and be the team to truly welcome Urban Meyer to the SEC… you ain’t in Kansas Utah any more, Dorothy.

Also, please note that Alabama fans did not even think about storming the field. Why? Because winning is what we’re SUPPOSED TO DO, morons. Storming the field is for DI-AA schools who beat cocky top ten teams, not teams that are supposed to be perennial powerhouses. “Act like you’ve been there before.”

    Roll damn tide!

    ROLL TIDE!!

Also of note, this Florida loss ended Meyer’s 20 game winning streak, as well as a long-standing “not trailing at the end of any quarter” streak.

(guess who was watching at Wilhaegans instead of Bryant-Denny)

The stadium was louder than I’ve ever heard it. That’s including Oklahoma in 2003, and even the first half of Auburn last year.

And I was opposite the field from the student section. The entire stadium was on their feet the whole game… in an uproar so loud that you couldn’t hear the band except when things got quiet. Pete, I bet you could have easily heard the screams of Rammer Jammer from your old place.

    Incredible.

  4. According to the record, Bama’s never rushed the field. One of the only I-A teams, ever. Roll Tide.

I have never heard Rammer Jammer so loud and clear over the television set… I can’t believe I wasn’t there… Pete, why is it the year we’re gone that we are having such an amazing season? But hopefully I will be there to watch us whip up on UcheaT as well, so I’ll give you a call when I make it to Ttown…

Oh yeah, and I was at Regionals in Orlando this weekend. Which gave plenty of opportunity to hold up a 31-3 sign in the window every time I drove past a car with any UF parafanalia.

Damn I wish I was there.
