Hi, I’m Pete. You might remember me from such educational videos as “Back when I used to blog all the damn time”, “The Lion, the Witch, and the Asshole”, and “Oh God. Who’s he pissed off now?”
Anyway, I’m writing because I’ve not done much of that this week, and it’s going to be a pain to try to keep up with my average posting rate if I don’t post something.
So. How’ve y’all been? I’ve been good. Busy… mainly coding. Either for the slave -driver or upgrades which might one day find their way into my blog.
This entry pretty much sucks, I’ve decided. I was thinking about starting over. Why don’t we do that? Alright… ready? Go.
Happy Friday. TGIF and all that. Would you like to know what happened to me tonight? I got a large pizza and two 20 ounce drinks for two dollars. It wasn’t left-over pizza, either. It was fresh out of the oven. How’d that happen? Well, I enjoy ordering pizza online. It’s good because a) I don’t have to get them to tell me about the specials and b) If they screw up my order, I know it’s their fault. Also because then I remember when I ordered it and when it should arrive. Usually the email says 45 minutes… but it’s never really taken longer than 20. Until tonight. I ordered the pizza and went upstairs. I watched the last 10 minutes or so of Law & Order… then watched the next Law & Order. When that one finished up I realized that I didn’t have a pizza yet. This was disconcerting as it’d been almost 90 minutes. So I called the 800 number.
A very nice-sounding girl took my issue and my order number and called the store on my behalf… which is neat, because I figured she’d just say “Oh, you’ll have to call the store.” Anyway, she came back on the line and said the pizza had left the store and would be there shortly. That was at 10 ’till 8:00. So I went back to the couch, unpaused the TiVo and about 15 minutes later the phone rang. This often happens because I don’t think Papa John’s drivers deliver more than three pizzas before they quit. It doesn’t seem like we’ve had the same driver here twice. As a result, they can never find the house. That wasn’t the problem. It was Papa Johns informing me that the order was now leaving the store, and would be free for my trouble.
A short time later Mike showed up with my pizza. I gave him a ($2) tip, and sent him on his way. The best kind of pizza, folks, is free pizza… and that’s the kind I had tonight… and will have again for lunch tomorrow.
This is also why I will order from Papa John’s again, but will not be ordering from WingZone any time in the even remotely near future. A few months back they took over two hours to deliver my order, I had to call them twice (after I ordered), and they still didn’t offer to do anything about it. I probably could’ve complained and gotten something out of it, but I’m much less interested in what I can get for free and much more interested in whether the business wants to have me as a customer. WingZone didn’t. Papa John’s does. I didn’t have to complain or even point out that they’d made a mistake. They knew it and fixed it right away.
Good for them. And for me. I like pizza.

I actually got a free pizza for towing the delivery guy out of the ditch in front of my house. I paid for my pizza he went to drive off and fell into the ditch. I pulled him out would not let him give me back the $5 tip I gave him and when I woke up the next morning I found 5 vouchers for a free large pizza any toppings taped to my door with a message from the manager saying thanks for helping because they were short a driver already. How cool is that?
Mmmm…. Papa John’s pizza would be good right now….
Mind you… free pizza of any variety tends to be a good deal.
I used to work for Papa John’s.
Free pizza is usually a good thing. I did turn down a free pizza from Dominos once. Even I won’t eat certain things. Forget “pizza”, I don’t even think that stuff can be labeld as edible.
I do like the little peppers they give you w/ Papa John’s.
Dominos have some pretty icky pizzas.
