2004, like most years, had its ups and downs, but now it’s over and it’s time to go back and sum it all up. This post usually comes out on New Year’s Day, but I wasn’t in town and have just gotten back into the flow of things.

First thing’s first, I thought I’d note that the site eclipsed 700 posts this year which is pretty cool, so this could possibly end up being a long post.

January (Archives)
Because it just wouldn’t have been January without a little CKI drama, Amy and I whipped up the Top 10 CKI Tools and shortly thereafter we had a return visit from the law firm that represents Kiwanis. This lead to a visit from Chris Rosenbaum and the necessary reiteration of why I resigned. There was another follow up, as well.

Also in January, my Law School file was completed and many applications were send off to their respective schools and I started using Mozilla Thunderbird to handle my email. In the political arena, John Kerry won the Iowa primary and that ended up being a pretty good thing for Republicans.

There was also a fairly big debate between a certain profoundly stupid resident of Louisiana: 1, 2, 3, and 4. Turns out that I was wrong because he was older and has a communication degree.

To close out the month I headed out to Los Angeles to party with lots of really cool people.

February (Archives)
Upon arriving back in the Dirty South, I was happy to see that the place was well cared for in my absence… and I rolled out a four-part series about my trip to California: 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Probably on account of my potty mouth, my site was ruled ‘inappropriate’ in a Plano school district. That’s a trophy for the wall. Another trophy: my original concept to create a remote trackback application for folks on blogspot (et al) was assumed by Haloscan.

March (Archives)
March got off to a bit of a slow start with very little going on except the occasional Ultimate Tourney. Spain had their 3/11 tragedy and Ron Jeremy came to ‘Bama to talk porn. Also, in probably the coolest ‘Bama sporting news of 2004, The Tide went to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Basketball Tourney. The highlight of the month, though, was getting my acceptance to IU’s School of Law and going for a visit.

April (Archives)
In April both Georgetown AND UCLA rejected me, which cleared the way for me to plan on attending Indiana. To aid in my entertainment throughout the course of the year, I decided that I would be celebrating April Fool’s Day whenever the hell I damn well pleased. Aside from a lot of political bickering, that’s pretty much all there was.

May (Archives)
In May Fanblogs started it’s second year of being the best damn football blog on the ‘net. Still is. I took finals in what I thought would be my last spring semester ever… turns out I was wrong about that. At the end of the month I profiled some of the candidates for CKI President and Vice-president.

June (Archives)
Limits on comment length were imposed in early June, and we lost one of the Best Presidents Ever. In good news, I was finally made a part of the secret cult of GMail. and the Pistons kicked the Lakers’ ass. In a move surprising to a lot of people, I actually agreed with Bill Clinton and then admonished Rumsfeld.

A testament to my stubbornness, this site reached it’s 1,000th public post on Jun 18. Since then we’ve tacked on nearly 300 of ‘em. I need to get out more.

Manny made a visit to Alabama for work, food, and drink… we had a good time.

July (Archives)
In addition to celebrating the birthday of our nation, I made a surprise appearance at CKI Convention in St. Louis. There was some ultimate going on, but also Manny, Nicole and I did Project Blog — 24 hours of blogging for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation. you can see the results of our sleep deprivation here.

August (Archives)
August got started right with the discussion of a very important topic: Girl-on-Girl action. Also, kind readers dropped 80 comments on an “In Five Words” entry On Canada. With the Olympics and all going on, I thought it was good to celebrate one of our many wins with a demonstration of America’s greatness: Kerri Walsh & Misty May. I picked up my current job, class started, and I put together a pretty good attendance streak.

September (Archives)
I got to host my second Carnival of the Vanities and shortly thereafter weathered the diminished effects of Hurricane Ivan here in Tuscaloosa. The updates Re: Ivan can be found here: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. Near the end of the month I missed my first class of the semester.

October (Archives)
Early in the month, a controversy erupted when a teacher claimed that her school wouldn’t let her put up a picture of President Bush. I kept on top of the story with various posts, but one that got pretty big. In the middle of the month, I started up Free Music Monday, a feature which is only available to registered users, but has now been going on for almost three months. The rest of the month was consumed with Halloween and getting geared up for the election.

November (Archives)
Obviously Bush won the election, which I was in favor of. Shortly thereafter, I sent in my application to Georgetown for the new year, hoping for good results there as well. I decided to celebrate my birthday and turn 24. I’m getting old.

December (Archives)
In December we started picking the best post of 2004 and ‘Bama was tapped to go to the Music City Bowl. Georgetown screwed up my application and then rejected me (again). I finished up my finals and my graduation audit was approved for May. I sent in my reapplication to Indiana, and the month all but coasted by. I finished out the year with some good folks up in Nashville and if 2005 can be as good as 2004, well, it’ll be awesome.

Happy New Year, Everybody.
