Though more than three-quarters of a million homes are without power here in Alabama (more than half of Alabama Power’s customers), we only had about a five or ten minute spell where the power flickered. It’s been on pretty much all day, Ivan was finally down-graded to a “Tropical Storm” and it is, apparently, still bearing down on Birmingham but, as Eric noted, it’s been pretty uneventful.
The sad part is that everyone is reporting that The Flora-Bama is gone. For those of you unfamiliar, it’s a little bar on the Florida-Alabama line that is very well known to both Alabama residents and gulf-coast vacationers alike… this is near Pensacola, which seems to have been hit with the brunt of the storm.

I was just there about 6 weeks ago. That’s a shame. However… a good gust of wind would have knocked that place down, it was so rickety!
I wish we could have some rain here, it’s still too damn hot.
