I’m back home. Overnight the storm picked up a little speed, so around 8:30 the City Administrator sent all non-emergency personnel home. A short while later the mayor called City Hall to tell us that the Civic Center was probably not a good shelter, so about three people stayed there and everyone else was sent home.

The wind is picking up a bit here, and it’s been raining steadily since last night, but it’s not raining hard yet. Tuscaloosa has been lucky so far, last night Ivan took a little jog to the east, putting us firmly on the “weak” side of the hurricane. Ivan also weakened a bit before making landfall, coming in as a Category 3.

I’m here for the duration of the storm, though I don’t expect power here to last through noon. Please feel free to call (205) 345-8840 today.

I’ll try to keep everyone posted as long as I can.
