Driving around earlier, just after The University shut down, there was an unmistakable air of rush, a tinge of worry and panic, and a general sense of urgency to everyone’s actions. Everything seemed to be happening sanely, but everyone was a little on-edge. Underneath all of that, though, there was an overriding calm, as if the city had resigned itself to accept the incoming storms, winds, rains, tornadoes, and the damage, injury, and death that’s sure to go along with it. At the root of it all, everyone seemed… impatient, but ready.
Current weather update… Ivan’s 50-60 miles off of the gulf coast, winds in gulf shores are gusting to hurricane force, and tornadoes spawned from Ivan have killed two in florida. The weather here in Tuscaloosa is great right now, 72 degrees, low humidity, a light breeze… it’s just gorgeous. Of course, the story 12 or 16 hours from now is going to be vastly different… Alabama Power is now saying that some people in the Birmingham/Tuscaloosa area could be without power for a week or more. Wow.
So tonight I had pizza with Amanda and we watched the news and weather. Nothing else much to do but sit and wait. I’ve got to clean up my room a bit… I’m not sure why I think that’s important… and then pack a bag to take to work tomorrow in anticipation — worst case scenario — that I’m stuck there for a few days.
For now, though, things are just great.
How is everyone else’s evening?

Good, thanks for asking Pete!
How far is your work place (City Hall) by the way?
