I know I shouldn’t give the most recent MVM response the time of day, but it is, honest to god, the most ignorant, absurd, moronic piece of shit that I’ve ever allowed to stay posted on this site. HOW this guy got a degree (if he actually did) is beyond me. The institution from which he received it should lose its accreditation IMMEDIATELY and be closed down indefinitely. I will now marvel and amaze you with MVM’s great feats of Illogic and asininity. Be forewarned: the following may REALLY piss you off, especially if stupidity irks you.

Ok “man”, and I will try to keep this brief, b/c now I know I’ve won when I’m dealing with kids younger than me,
Ahh… fuck democracy. Screw reason. To hell with logic. Older guy wins, right? Do you realize how stupid this is? Because if not, I’m sure Kim and several others would be more than happy to go ahead and trump your old age.

when you said that you are an undergrad, now I know the level of intelligence I am dealing with, which still needs some maturity time, but that’s okay, we all go through college…I did, and you are.
As Rach pointed out — Wow! What a difference a day makes, right? You go from no degree to BRILLIANT over night. Uh huh. Listen here, gramps… you have a COMMUNICATIONS DEGREE. I could get one of those in my sleep, in Latin. It’s communications. Big. Fucking. Deal. Try something with right answers next time, eh? Maybe a little math. Until you’re ready for a challenging major, don’t go flaunting your degree around here. You only discredit your alma mater, because even a Comm major should be able to see how absurd your arguments are.

But I now see from your obvious college level response that there is no point I, or anyone for that matter, should argue with you ever.
The reason why you shouldn’t argue with me, Matt, is because you’re absolutely incapable of doing it. Lots of people are. Lots of people have. You are not now, nor will you ever be (as far as I can tell), one of them. I’m sorry to break the news to you. It also leads me to believe that you should leave the defense of Nick and/or Lauren to Nick and/or Lauren, respectively. I would stake my life on the fact that they’d do a better job, owing much to the fact that they’re not idiots.

Here is why, and I quote:
This ought to be good.

“Why don’t you see the problem people have with you?
False assumption #1: I don’t see the problem.
I see the problem, I just don’t care.”
And that is where your case ends “buddy.”. Not just myself, but no one can hold a logical conversation or debate with you.

Try again. There’s already anecdotal evidence to the contrary. It probably just takes more logic than you’re capable of.

If you are debating with someone, and you show that you don’t care what their stance or opinion is, or if someone has a problem with what you say or do, and you don’t care to address it, that person loses all respect for you and sees that there is no point in talking or debating with you.
I care about well informed opinions. Your opinion of me is not one. Nor is the opinion of most of the people who don’t like me. There exist people who do, in fact, know me and who do not, in fact, like me. They’re few and far between and, in general, we just disagree about certain things.

Ask anyone that and you will see I am not being “illogical” here when I say that.
The fact that you’ve made one point which has no obvious logical land mines does not mean that your entire argument is logical, in fact the insinuation that it does is pretty much self-defeating.

Why try to debate a point, if the stubborn person you are talking to will never think, “hey that’s a good point, or hey, he could be right.” What’s the point then?
You see, this is all based on the fundamental assumption that you’ve said something that could be right. I’m not going to lie to myself. I entertain ideas, think them through, and then make a decision. I’ve given thought to all of the issues that you’ve brought up, and found them severely lacking any substantive backing besides your own hypocritical opinion. I can go back through this very website and find examples of times when I’ve thought “I guess so-and-so is right” or “I’ll concede that point” or “Alright, alright… I changed my mind about ______” It’s not common, however. Want to know why it’s not common?

Because I think before I speak. Not all the time, but as often as possible. I debate MYSELF before I put an idea out. If it doesn’t stand that test, I don’t say it. In that way, I find myself very often saying things that I firmly believe and have thoroughly thought through. Most of the time arguments to my opinion have already been evaluated. It may appear that I haven’t given them the time of day, but most of the time, exactly the opposite is the case. This paragraph, Matt, is not something I have to tell my friends or other people who know me. It’s something I have to tell you because you’re clueless.

And that is the problem with you, and you just admitted it.
Ha. I admitted that I don’t care what some bumbling idiot with a Communications Degree and a TV Career that’s “taking off” cares about me. BFD, Matt. I do what I think is right, I say what I believe, and I do more than just believe that I’m right — I actively work toward that end. I can be stubborn, sure. I got it from my Dad (though he might argue vehemently that I got it from my mother) but I try to reserve my stubbornness for times when the facts aren’t close at hand or it’s solely a matter of opinion.

So with that, I can’t debate with you, it is pointless.
This you’ve proven time and time again, thank you for restating it, just in case someone didn’t figure that out two posts ago.

And no one else can…you will always be right in your mind, and that is just dumb.
If you’re not right, in your own mind, shouldn’t you change your mind? Isn’t continuing to believe something that you know is wrong a little stupid? This kind of statement is very instructive in that it helps us understand why you say some of the remarkably unintelligent things that you have here.

And Rach, you’re obviously in the same boat with him, if you can’t understand how important a college degree is yet, well, you’ll learn.
Wow. You know Rachel even less than you know me, yet you’re labeling her. I bet if I gave you another sentence you’d insult her. Good thing you’re not a hypocrite, right?

I want everyone to stop and ask yourselves some questions: Why would someone value a piece of paper over actual knowledge? Why would someone assume that having a degree = knowledge? Why would someone assume that being older = being right?

The answer, my friends, is that someone would do that if they were struggling desperately to win an argument they couldn’t make a real case for.

I can’t debate with that closed “dumb” mind either.
Wow. Fancy that. One more sentence and he DID manage to toss an ad hominem.

You’ll just retort with some high school-ish, “well, you’re just dumb because blah blah blah…you give him ammunition to use and it’s funny blah blah blah.”
As opposed to resorting to some “You’re dumb because you don’t have a degree” argument? Please.

Same mentality as him. All he is doing is just trying to show-off his so-called intelligence to the world, and at the same time, not care about what other people have to say in debates and talks.
I care what other people have to say, and I give it credit when it’s well thought-out and/or right. When it’s wrong, stupid, or silly I don’t take it seriously if I have the option not to.

Closed, stubborn, high school mentality minds is what I am dealing with here,
You’re so fucking eloquent that it hurts, Matt… you know that? I’m sure you do. Communications Degree and all.

and I am actually wasting my time trying to prove a point by writing.
You’re wasting your time trying to prove a point by writing the inane garbage that you’ve written, that’s for damn sure.

So let me end by once again, STOOPING TO YOUR LEVEL,
I wish you’d go ahead and “stoop” to using a little bit of reason, that’d make for an actual debate.

and, remember saying to me and I quote:
“Go back to school and return when you’ve learned a thing or two about logic, reason, and the English language.” Well, let me take your medicine, stoop down to your little undergrad level, and shove it right back at your ego-balloonned (sic) head by saying, YOU need to FINISH school and return talking to me when YOU’VE learned a thing or two about logic, reason, and ego-filled people for your sake, and the English language.

We’ve dealt with the assumption that a piece of paper means that you’re smart. I’m going to do something that I don’t do often, and don’t like to do, but the point needs to be made. I feel like I’m resorting to a “mine’s bigger than yours” tactic, but I can’t think of anything else to counter such absurdity.

There’s a test that people take when they want to go to Law School. It’s called the LSAT. It tests, as I’m sure you know, logical reasoning, critical reading of the english language, and general cognitive capacity. Being a prospective law school student, I took this test. The folks at the Law School Admissions Council seem to concur that my skills in the above areas are well above average. In fact, I scored higher than… oh, shoot… what was it? That’s right… 97% of the people who took the test. Ninety. Seven. Percent.

Repeat that a few times to yourself. Now, that certainly, in and of itself, does not necessarily mean that anything I say is correct or that I’m better at it than you… after all you could be a top 3% kinda guy. But it certainly rules out you trying to make a claim that I know nothing about it. In fact, I’ve noticed, Matt, that you have yet to start from a proper assumption and follow it to a logical conclusion. Hasn’t happened yet, which is pretty amazing for someone was wise and learned as yourself. Maybe you ought to give that a shot. We respect those kind of things around here.

With that, I think I just won this battle, thank you, good-bye, and good-night.
Well, I’m sure all of my readers, casual visitors, and others certainly agree. You must have won, right? You have a degree and you said so, so it must be true. Man, I can’t wait to have my degree… then I can be as smart as you. We should really keep in touch so that when I get my JD I can tell you what a schmuck you are.

And I’ll be right, too, because I’ll have more little pieces of paper hanging on my wall than you.

  1. Before anyone comes to berate me about my mockery of Matt’s Comm Degree… let me just say that I respect them in their context, but it’s my duty as a scientist/engineer/mathematician to regard degrees in the hard-sciences as better simply because they’re more difficult.

It’s nothing personal… I’m sure there are lots of people with Comm Degrees would COULD get engineering degrees if they wanted them. We shouldn’t do things just because they’re hard…

So as long as you don’t come and talk down to me about the fact that I haven’t finnished my degree and you have Comm Degree, I shant ever have to belittle Comm degrees again.

  2. Bravo on your post, very entertaining.

Props for the LSAT score as well. Anyone who has ever taken it knows it has its own little corner of hell.

Since this is my second comment does that make me one of the aforementioned “worshippers”? Just checking, because if we are working off of the higher education caste system then I don’t think I can technically worship you since I am three months away from my J.D. and thus on a higher plane of existence. But you might want to consult Matt on those rules. I wouldn’t want to miss a cult meeting or anything on a technicality.

  3. True, true… maybe I should be in your cult instead? Well… in three months.

  4. I speak at least for myself when I say, Pete, I think it’s time to let this one go. I know it’s your site and you can do what you want, but hopefully this pissing contest will be coming to an end between both of you. You have better and more enjoyable things to write about.

Oh, and an accounting degree is MUCH harder than a wimpy comp sci / engineering degree :) :)

  5. I’m not saying that an accounting degree is hard but my calculator has one. It says grad on it(right next to rad and dec) and its an accounting calculator. I would love to see you pick up a BS in Network Engineering

  6. Sigh, I am three years away from my Ph.D…SIGH. This is depressing.

  7. Yeah, but bobby… it’s easy to out-piss people. Especially people like these… and I’ve been busy lately, so things requiring lots of thought are out.

PS: Accounting doesn’t scare me. Learn assembly and we’ll talk. ;)

  8. Assembly…::SHUDDER:: Just as bad as Regular Expression.

  9. Hey, I can assemble… I can assemble a table, a desk, hell, even a chair! Just give me the parts and I’ll get my tools out and put it right together!!

(This is probably not what you mean though…) :)

  10. I started reading this thinking Matt was stupid for even trying to come close to your debate-skills…as I moved on, I read this, “So with that, I can’t debate with you, it is pointless.”
Now, with that, why the heck is he even commenting!?
Matt, you are as dumb as a rock, and that’s even giving you more credit than you deserve. You may just want to stop digging your own grave, because you’ll never get out of this. :)
…oh, bravo, Pete. Nicely done :-P
