Thanksgiving came and went, bringing with it my 28th birthday. It should be stated, and cannot be emphasized enough, that I don’t think birthdays are a big deal. In this regard, Dave Barry and I see eye to eye. I typically prefer not to have things bought for me and, truth be told, the 40 Facebook wall posts were more than enough. Nevertheless, 28 was pretty bland. That probably had something to do with the fact that I spent my entire 27th year having to remind myself that I wasn’t 28.
Since I haven’t updated in a while, I guess I should give a little run down.
Anyway, Thanksgiving was spent with Morrises in Birmingham. They were basically my second family in college — still are, I guess — and they seem to enjoy feeding me as much as I enjoy eating.
Matt came down for the SEC Championship Game. This was a game we had planned on trying to see long before I thought Alabama really had a great shot of being there. We walked around downtown checking out the crowds and fans and such. We also tried to buy tickets, but they ended up being counterfeit, which really sucked. In retrospect, I still can’t think of anything we could have done, short of not buying tickets at all, to keep from getting scammed.
We ended up back at the ‘Bama Alumni bar to watch the game. I somehow managed to run up a $200 bar tab1 before we left.
After that we somehow ended up at a gay bar in Midtown2, which I think ended up being fun, although I did get hit on quite a bit for the short time that we were there. My new friends thought it was funny, so they decided not to intervene.
Now I’m trying to decide how much, if any, money I can afford to spend on the Sugar Bowl. That amount is reduced significantly because I imagine we’re going to see a decent number of Sugar Bowls over the next five or six years.
I’ll probably just watch it in the alumni bar… here’s hoping that ends up being cheaper than a trip to New Orleans.
By “somehow”, I mean “the same way it always happens:” when i start drinking I start buying drinks for random people.
By “somehow”, I mean “the same way it always happens:” the group consisted almost entirely of women and gay men.

Here’s to my team vs. your team in the Sugar Bowl!
I’m not sure my team stands a chance, but it will be fun either way.
I went to Falcons game once on street-bought tickets. And they were actually internet purchased, so it was even more sketchy. But it worked out. They’re not all scammers… the selling point was these guys were willing to walk to the gate with us… ask next time
Problem with that is that the people selling more tickets than just the ones you’re buying aren’t really willing to do that because they have to stand a half-mile from the stadium in order to sell them for more than face so, as it gets closer to kick-off, if they’re trying to move their stock, they can’t really afford (even the legit ones) to spend 30 minutes walking to the gate and back.
