So here I am… in Atlanta. The “dirty south”, as it were. The interesting thing about moving to a place after years of perpetual studentdom is that once you move, you’re now “from” there. That’s your home. It doesn’t always feel that way when you’re in school — you become accustomed to a somewhat nomadic lifestyle. I never really said I was “from” Indiana or Bloomington. Not that those are bad places to be from, but there was always that date in the future that I suspected I’d be leaving town… and I did.
That’s not really the case any more. I might leave Atlanta eventually… but I don’t know when and I imagine it won’t be any time soon. For all intents and purposes, I’m an Atlantan. And a Georgian. And it’s a little strange not to be a nomad any more.
So far I’ve really, really like Atlanta. I haven’t really done much, but I can see there’s just a ton of potential here. Lots of things to do, places to go, and people to meet. I picked a nice apartment in a good location. The most “traffic” I see on my commute is having to stand on the train because there aren’t any seats open. It’s nice.
The apartment is great, really. I went from having kitchen appliances and fixtures older than I am to having brand new stuff. So new the user manual and product registration paperwork was still in all of them. I have a dishwasher. And an ice maker. Seriously, folks, you might as well be a cave man if you don’t have those two things. I have a washer and dryer in the apartment. They’re both new as well.
The only thing I don’t have, so far, is all of my furniture. Soon enough, but sleeping on the floor is getting a little old.
Anyway… bottom line: so far, so good. Visitors are welcome… as long as you don’t mind sitting on the floor.
