Scout and I hung out at the dog park for a bit today. It was gorgeous outside, and I thought he was going to spontaneously combust from pent-up energy.

While there, this loud, gabby woman arrived with two dogs and two children. Her mouth didn’t stop running from the moment she arrived until after she was out of ear-shot. She talked about everything. Mostly to me. She was being overly friendly and irritatingly nosey. Her daughter, who must have been in the neighborhood of 14, clearly hoped that she would just die rather than suffer even one more moment of embarrassment.

At one point, she looked at her son, who was wearing his visor backward. “Joey1, turn your visor around,” she admonished. Joey thought it looked cooler that way. “It might look cooler,” she replied, “but I told you to put it on to protect you from the sun.”

“If you don’t turn it around, you’ll end up getting a sunburn on your eyes.”

  1. Name changed because I don’t remember it.

  1. I think you really can sunburn your eyes… or at least have your eyes damaged by the sun. Isn’t that why they make sunglasses with UV protection?

  2. A few years ago I got sunburned on my left ear. It was a weird place to get burned and hurt like hell. It also made it really difficult to sleep on that side. So you can get burned anywhere on the body exposed without sunscreen.
