So… the New Year’s Resolution came to a screeching halt yesterday when I just plum forgot to post. Oops. I guess it had to happen eventually, no?

Anyway… my phone has finally reached the point that it cannot go a single day of use without being charged and I’m sick of it… so I’ll be getting a new phone, hopefully this week. I think I’ve settled on the BlackBerry Curve… the iPhone browser is really nice, but the keyboard is awful and it’s just too expensive.

Now I just need to figure out where and what kind of service to get. It looks like AT&T is my only option, but their unlimited text and data plan is like $75 a month, and I was really looking to keep it around $60.

Any thoughts? Horror stories?

  1. The best thing I’ve found is a family plan. If you’re still living with your sister or maybe your girlfriend could use a new plan as well, set up a family plan and split the cost for a lot of savings.

  2. Sounds like all you need is a new battery, not a new phone [unless you WANT a new phone]

  3. Agreed on the family plan.

The iPhone unlimited data plans cost less (I think $10/month)… so you might want to factor that $240 in. The keyboard hasn’t been a hold up for me, but of course your mileage may vary.

  4. I have the Blackberry Pearl for over a year and I’ve liked it a lot! I don’t know anything about the Curve, but I think Blackberrys are pretty intuitive and user-friendly.

  5. My problem with the pearl is the lack of keyboard. I know it has fewer letters per key, but it’s just not the same as a full keyboard. Who do you have your cell phone service through?

  6. Morgan and I just switched to AT&T when she got an iPhone. We’ve had no complaints with their network, and she loves the thing. Family plan is a ton cheaper than us separate, and I second Brandon’s comment on the data plan. The iPhone data plan is $20/month cheaper in our area, which pays for the phone and then some.

  7. I like the curve too. It’s on my want list. I have T-Mobile and will probably stick with that. I’ve had good luck with them and I really don’t want to go back to AT&T or Cingular. I know T-Mobile said my plan would go up some for the data, but I’m not entirely sure how much right off the top of my head.

  8. TSC, you assume they still sell batteries for my phone. It’s pretty old.

  9. This response is probably too late now, but I have service through T-Mobile. (And sorry for the grammatical error in my last comment…) :)
