When Saban signed the #4 player (and #1 WR) in the country, it jumped Alabama to #1 in almost everyone’s rankings.

Now, you will hear people with poor recruiting classes saying things like “Recruiting ranking doesn’t matter”, and in a very strict sense, that’s true. What does matter, though, is the quality and talent of the players coming into the program. The rankings are imperfect, but they are nonetheless a proxy for that talent.

Of the top 10 Alabama HS recruits, 7 of them went to Alabama. 3 of them went out of state to play football. Exactly zero of them went to Auburn. Tommy’s two five-star recruits are JuCo transfers… which means they won’t be on the Plains for very long (lucky them).

Things are definitely looking up in Tuscaloosa. Les Miles, even with a BCS title under his belt, couldn’t even muster a top 10 class. Yeah… he’ll def. be able to keep the talent level up. (Ha)
