Ask MetaFilter is a site where random people can ask questions and other random people can answer them. Half to three-quarters of the answers, in most cases, are ridiculous (especially when legal advice is requested). Less than that proportion of the questions are ridiculous, but this one is:
So back a few years ago, I read multiple articles on the web, alleging that PayPal was owned and operated by some seriously right-wing people. Given that PayPal has been acquired by eBay since, is this still the case? In other words, when I use PayPal as a buyer or seller, am I contributing to the wallets of the US extreme right? Or have they all been paid off by eBay now, and any profits will just go to whoever owns eBay these days?
To be honest, it scares me that people like this actually exist. Worrying about whether some fraction of a penny of your money is somehow winding its way into the hands of *gasp* those evil, evil conservatives. I can only imagine that this guy would die of horror if he found himself to actually have eaten something from Chik’fila.
People like this are “tolerant” of everyone except those who disagree with them.

Count me as a nut, but I love the idea of the dollar vote being used to strike back at companies that ally themselves with one’s political enemies.
There’s a tremendous difference between a corporation that allies itself with a party or ideal versus a corporation who has founders or stockholders that do.
