I was highly disappointed this morning when I realized that I had missed Fox’s Moment of Truth debut last night. I’m not much of a TV Hawk. I don’t know when things come on, and I frequently miss things I want to see. I need to get the TiVo back in action.

Today, I was looking around to see if I could find video of the episode (it’s not on Fox’s Video on Demand system, sadly) and I haven’t had much luck. I did, on the other hand, find this “interesting” piece of “journalism” from TV Guide:

It’s just another piece of cheap, stupid trash from Fox reality guru Mike Darnell, this century’s answer to P.T. Barnum—though he’s a pathetic sort of huckster, really, sadly lacking the flair to make his freak shows actually entertaining for the suckers who bite.

Roush spends several hundred words searching for the perfect derogatory adjective to adequately sum up how horrible he thinks the show is. Personally, I think the show is genius.

I feel sorry for people who think every piece of entertainment should be patterned after the wannabe high-brow pseudo-intellectual babble that infests freshman honors dorms before they all realize that life isn’t half as serious as had they previously believed.

Besides, it is a truly simple person who cannot find intellectual challenge and exercise in trivial and banal endeavors. If it weren’t for making the trivial complex, half of all researchers would be out of work.

That said, I hope I don’t forget to watch the show next week. There’s something quite intriguing to me about the tension between greed and secrecy.
