For a lot of reasons, I prefer the selection of Florida to that of Michigan. The big 10 was astoundingly weak this year (PS: Wisconsin has no business being a top 10 team, regardless of their record) and while I will grant that Michigan is probably the better team (they’re more consistent, at least), all of this talk about Ohio State killing Florida reminds me of an article from the LA Daily News from Jan 1 of 1993… it starts out like this…
NEW ORLEANS — Miami is No. 1. It will stay that way.
Alabama doesn’t have a hope, or a prayer, or a shot in the dark of upsetting the Hurricanes for the national championship in tonight’s Sugar Bowl. And it won’t even be close. Alabama will be trounced, clobbered, mauled, devastated, humiliated and left for dead. The Crimson Tide will not roll, not even a little bit. Tonight you will experience low Tide. Probably even ebb Tide. You wouldn’t even have to hike up your pant legs to wade in what be left of this Tide after the Hurricanes pass through.
It goes on at length. But the end result of that game was an Alabama victory, 34-14.
There’s a reason we play the games, folks.

How many times did you see Wisconsin play? I saw them quite a few times, and they are a solid team. I’m looking forward to their bowl game against Arkansas to see how that plays out.

It’s easy to look “solid” when you play a schedule that ranks in the bottom 25% in all of D-IA in terms of difficulty.
Wisconsin did not beat a single ranked team all season.

…or more recently, a 2002 Ohio State team (that won several of their games very unconvincingly) beating an “unbeatable” Miami team in Sun Devil Stadium for a National Title. I honestly do believe (The) Ohio State will win this one pretty handily, but you’re right…that’s why they play the games.

i like that people recall all these old nat’l title games in which the underdog pulls it out. yahoo.
this year, though, we pretty much have a professional football team playing a gimmick program. florida’s offense is exciting because of the crazy shit they do - rotating qbs, direct snaps, and so on. it will be interesting to see if the urbster’s playcalling can overcome a lack of talent against a usually-tough THE osu defense. on the other side of the ball, florida will be lucky to stop 3 drives.
but on the bright side, maybe the commercials will be good. or some cheerleader’s top will fall off. something like that would make the game worth watching.

Wow Ohio State sucks real bad I mean I gave Florida a chance but 4 touchdowns?
Fitz was right we do have a professional team playing against a pretender its too bad we couldn’t have a UF-LSU rematch maybe it would be more interesting
