As of yesterday, I still had not picked a “favorite” of the IU Law Bloggers… today, that all changed.
law students gossip ceaselessly. i don’t mean to have a “dear diary” moment here, but it’s a bit of bullshit that i can’t earn my bad reputation, it’s handed to me for my for alleged bad deeds that i didn’t even get to commit.
listen: i will do a lot of jerky things. i will screw people over and be, hopefully, generally unlikable. you don’t need to make bad things up about me, i will try my best to give you reason to start rumors. but what the hell is accusing my of accosting a girl that i did not accost going to accomplish? it’s simply the product of people that hate freedom. or me. basically the same thing.
Now, I do want to say that as the class expands with the arrival of fall starters it will get better in that the gossip will be a bit more diluted.
Of course, you never know when someone might imply that you are a date rapist for no apparent reason whatsoever.
Every class (be it law school, undergrad, or clown college) will have it’s share of insecure tools who try entirely too hard and feel like they need to turn the rumor mill in order to be a part of the “in” crowd. It only seems worse here because the class is so small.
I came to the realization long ago that it is not a requirement of life to like, or be liked by, everyone you meet. In fact, there are a lot of people who simply do not like themselves enough to make them worth my time or energy.
