Social Networking sites like Facebook and MySpace have become all the rage. They’re a pretty big deal. People will spend hours deliberating over what to use as their facebook picture… or so I’ve heard. But despite all of the posturing, one thing is true: you can tell a lot about someone by the facebook picture they choose.
So what is your facebook picture saying on your behalf1?

“This animal is less repulsive than I am.”
“I’m very, very clever, but you’d never know it from talking to me,
so I need to show you this picture. That someone else created.
Now do you see how clever I am?”

“I used to be cute…
I don’t know what happened.”
Same Gender or Evenly Mixed Gender

“If you don’t know me you won’t know if
I’m the cute one in this picture or not.”
You with some Hotties

“If people this attractive are willing
to be photographed with me, you should like me.”

Guys: This is me out-kicking my coverage!
Girls: Aww! Aren’t we cute! I love us! Yay! *giggles*

“I’m so artsy and cool. You can tell because even my facebook picture is unique.”
or: “I chose this angle because it’s the only way to get my ‘good side’.”
See Also

“I’m fun and totally not an alcoholic. No, really! I swear!
I can quit any time I want!!”

“No, I will not have sex with you for money.
Who does it for money these days?”

“This is but a small taste of how awesome I am.”

“People should like me for me, because I would
not have friends if they liked me for my looks.”
or: “I think I am such hot shit that I would
have too many stalkers if I put my picture up.”
Just to reiterate… I do not mean to imply that the people pictured above are examples of the truth of those statements… in many cases quite the opposite… the pictures are samples of the genre only. I’m sure I missed some types. Fill in my gaps in the comments if you want.
I do not believe this is true for all of the pictures shown.

Actually, I do think the “outkicking the coverage” one is very truthful and accurate

“The pet” is my facebook pic, but not my pet. I wish it were mine! It’s so cute that I’d roll it down a hill. Anyway, I think you forgot the pictures taken two to three years ago, a common choice for those who have gained 15 pounds since.

Hey! I just realized that by using my facebook pic under the category “You with some hotties” wasn’t referring to the fact that I was hot, but the fact that I was standing with hotties, meaning you. I just figured that out. You suck. Oh, and I like this Bobby person;-)
