Well… in case you were considering getting your next oil change at Jiffy Lube… you might want to reconsider.

Although, honestly, those guys look pretty shady. I’m not sure I’d let them touch my car whether I had seen this video or not.

…speaking of cars… I might have good news in that department tomorrow or Tuesday. Keep your fingers crossed.

  1. Sadly, that is a newscast from Los Angeles. But then again, what would you expect from a city with 10 million people and 20 million cars?

  2. I went to Jiffy Lube once. About 6 years ago, when I was at Southern Miss. I went to New Orleans for the weekend and was very busy and needed an oil change. Since I did not have time to do it myself, I brought my car there.

Unfortunetly, it appears they did not tighten the oil pan bolt tight enough. Sadly for me, I realized this on I-59 between Slidell and Hattiesburg when all of the oil proceeded to drain out of my car, while driving at 75 miles an hour, causing an impressive display of white smoke coming out from under the back of my car as the oil hit the various hot parts of the undercarriage. Alas… when it finally cooled enough for us to check under the car… the bolt had fallen out and was long gone.

Of course Jiffy Lube said it was not their fault because their techs are trained to tighten the bolts.

Never since have I been to there.

  3. I have several friends who have had similar experiences with Midas.

Personally, I have always had luck with getting car repairs by finding a local person and asking them who they recommend. Here in Bloomington, I have found Tom Cherry Muffler (just south of 17th on College) to be nothing but reputable, as have the many people I’ve sent their way, and they’ve been able to recommend other reputable local mechanics for other issues (my brakes, for instance) when I’ve had issues.

  4. If you have your receipt report it on line to the Better business Bureau and you will get your money back.
