A few posts ago I mentioned needing someone to record ‘Bama games for me. Had I gotten on it a few months ago, it wouldn’t have been such a problem. As it stands right now, in order for that to work, I would have to set the wheels in motion, like, yesterday and have everything work the right way right away. No room for error or mistakes.

Today I decided to solve the problem a different way.

Instead of spending $13 a month in cash money (for someone else to have a TiVo) and countless hours of my time downloading the games and waiting for them, I decided to just sack up and order DirecTV service. I was a little disappointed that the college football offerings were divided up into two separate packages — Sports Pack and ESPN GamePlan — but I ordered them both. I will probably have upwards of 25 college football games at my disposal every Saturday starting in September. Later on this week I will order a TiVo to make sure I miss as few of them as possible. Unfortunately the 10-tuner TiVo hasn’t been created yet. Shame.

In a few weeks I’ll actually be able to tell everyone why I’m going to this length and expense. (Aside from a year’s worth of college football withdrawals) It will make more sense then, I swear.

  1. Glad you found a solution. Sorry I couldn’t be more help :)

  2. You’re going to LOVE the ESPN GameDay package. The Sports Pack is eh. I quit getting that one after last season because I don’t care that much about WAC games, which seems to be the majority of what’s on. If there’s a big time game that I can’t see on ESPN GameDay, ESPN 1-∞, then I can always grab $5.99 or whatever for PPV.

We all know what you’re up to, Pete. You’ve quit law school and you’re trying to fill your life with Mountain Dew and ‘Bama football.

  3. SportsPack might be overkill, but I already know that Bama’s first conference game of the year (vs. Vandy) will be on FoxSports South… so I figured i’d pick up that package just to see what’s going on with it. I can’t imagine holding on to it after the season is over, though.

  4. What is SportsPack… is that Fox Sports version of ESPN GamePlan?

I’m doing too much traveling this fall so I won’t be home enough to justify getting those packages (and during the week, when I am not working I am studying for the CPA exam.) But I’m thinking NEXT fall, I am going to get the GameDay package as well as the NFL Sunday Ticket (so I can get Saints games as well). I’ve heard nothing but great things about both of those packages.

  5. Bobby: Sort of… except instead of just getting college football you get all of the regional fox sports stations for as long as you have the sports pack. Plus you get some others like ESPNU and CSTV. Full channel listing here.

  6. You should’ve gotten a slingbox

  7. I had GamePlan 2 years ago when I was in Texas (and hence not getting to see the proper amount of Big 10 games), and it was awesome. It’s like you died and went to college football heaven. Mmmm.. college football heaven…
