The 2006 ESPYs were good to the Tide family. Not unexpectedly, WR Tyrone Prothro won the award for play of the year… and why not? It was the single best catch in the history of the game. The Immaculate Reception has nothing on The Catch. See for yourself:
Best. Catch. Ever.
Alabama Alumnus Shaun Alexander won two ESPYs, one for Best Football Player and a second for Best Record Breaking Performance. Had Alabama had a better season in ‘99, he’d have been a heisman contender. Should’ve been anyway. To hell with Ron Dayne.
In conclusion: Roll Tide.

I too just happened to turn on the ESPYs in time to see Shaun pick up Best Record Breaking Performance and then to see Prothro pick up his award… and I immediately called my parents to share the fantastic football news… Roll. Damn. Tide.

Ugh. Even though it led to y’all beating Southern Miss… I do have to admit it was one hell of a catch. That was amazing, that’s what I thought when I saw it live. They should have just given him the touchdown instead of ruling on review that he was really down at the 1.
