I’m going to keep this apolitical, even though it is about a politician.
Here’s what I don’t understand. How on earth did Rep. McKinney not get indicted? This has eluded me for days. She was not wearing her Representatives pin. She tried to bypass the metal detectors at the capitol. When she was stopped, she actually punched an officer in the chest. THEN, she has the temerity to suggest that this is “racial profiling”. What’s more, there were several witnesses and McKinney herself basically admitted to that version of events.
…and then the grand jury declines to indict her on assault charges. I don’t care who you are, I don’t care what political party you ascribe to. There is no way that a person who strikes a police officer should have a hard time getting indicted.
What irritates me even more is McKinney’s statement: “I accept today’s grand jury finding of ‘no probable cause’ as right and just and the proper resolution of the case.”
You punched a police officer and ‘no indictment’ is the ‘right and just’ resolution? I wonder if a person would have the same luck with the grand jury if they punched McKinney in the chest. If so, would she also think that was “right and just”?
In the wake of this I think two things should happen. First, she should be reprimanded by the House. The Capitol Police are working on that one1. Second, in the next election, McKinney should be unseated. In fact, she really shouldn’t even get a chance to go on the ballot. She should not advance beyond the Democratic Primary. I don’t even particularly care if she’s replaced by a Democrat. Just get her out. She’s an embarrassment.
Once I figure out which representative is the most appropriate one to contact (Illinois? Alabama? Indiana? Alaska? Who knows.) I’ll be getting in touch myself.

For realz. In Crim Pro we learned that “you could indict a ham sandwich.” Oh, the lies they tell you in law school.
I’d be surprised if she’s unseated. It seems pretty clear to the rest of the world that she’s an idiot, but in Dekalb County, she’s the rough equivalent of Mother Teresa.

Well, I think we just have to assume that said ham sandwich is not a congresswoman. And it’s probably a ham sandwich on white bread… if you catch my drift.
I wonder if it’d had turned out the same way if McKinney were a man.
