So this is sort of weird. I don’t think I’ve missed posting for a week in… probably years. I don’t know.
My excuse?
Screw you, it was spring break! You’re not the boss of me!
Anyway… quick updates in turn:
Free Music Monday
I didn’t forget. I’m just taking a break from FMM for a while. If you don’t know what this is, you’re not a registered user. What I’m going to replace it with, is a weekly advice column. Why? Because I’m really good at giving advice. The advice isn’t always good, but I’m good at providing it. It’s going to be like “Dear Abby” but with more profanity. That is, if you participate. You don’t have to ask real questions, but you can. The form is totally anonymous (no, really, it doesn’t log stats and it only uses the login system to remove the human-validation from the page). There’s a ’signed’ field on it. Think “sleepless in seattle”. Your questions might be edited for clarity, grammar, or to make them (or my answers to them) funnier. If your “signed” name is not funny enough, I will change it. It will probably be less funny after I change it, so save us all the trouble and be funny the first time.
Feel free to ask about things I know nothing about, I will still answer.
In short: go on, Ask Pete (there’s a sidebar link now, too)
Ultimate
Anyway… the ATL with ‘Manda was fun times. On Sat night we ate at this mexican restaurant that was referred to us based on it’s margaritas. We tried all of their various flavors. YUM. The tournament was okay — we finished about what we were seeded (give or take), and we have a huge tournament this weekend in Austin. It is very important and we are flying out on Friday morning.
Law School
The brief is done and turned in and the only thing we have left for LRW is a few classes and an oral argument. I’m really, really looking forward to that. It’s sort of odd how much I’m looking forward to putting on a suit and pretending to be a lawyer while some lawyer pretends to be a judge and my classmates pretend not to be amazed by how great I am1. And modest.
In other law school news, I finally sent in my JAG application. I’m currently going through the physical qualification portion… today I answered 75 medical history questions. I answered “no” to 74 of them. I answered “yes” to “do you wear contact lenses”. Sometimes it’s surprising even to me how infrequently I’ve been to the hospital. Four times, including my birth. Sometime soon I go up for a physical and after that it’s just a competition for how ever many slots they have.
Now, don’t worry, I’ve already gotten several mini-pseudo-lectures comments about being shipped off to war, “limiting my options so early”, how hard OCS is going to be, how little money I’m going to make, and so on ad nauseam from a cadre of pretend mothers2. My real mother, on the other hand, has been very supportive3.
The bottom line, lest anyone forget, is that I’m an adult and perfectly capable of making informed decisions and then living with the consequences. I know, I know… “We’re just worried!” but honestly, my real mother is allowed to worry. My sisters also, occasionally. You other worryworts? Suck it up and deal4.
If I’m accepted into the program I’ll post more about the ins and outs. I’ll also start taking applications for people to blog here for the 10 weeks I’m in Quantico.
NCAA Tourney
My bracket in the law school pool is irredeemibly fucked. It’s still okay in the other pool, though.
Ummm…
There’s probably more. I’ll think of it later.
1 - Okay, so they might not be pretending.
2 - Sometimes I wonder if the worriers who have gone/are going to law school are just jealous that my job search will be over before I start my second year, and that I’m going to get better experience in my first five years than they are.
3 - Looks like they need a little more practice at mothering.
4 - And I mean that in the most affectionate possible way.

Duke just fucked the last remaining bracket of mine that had any chance at all of winning anything. Now I remember why I hate them.
