Well, we turned in our second writing assignment (the first graded one) before break and my section got them back today. Quoth the prof:
A couple of things about the grades:I was generally thrilled with the papers. Almost all of you “got it” in terms of the structural use of the paradigm. Good job!!
Scores ranged from the mid-70s to the upper-80s. You should be happy with a score in the 80s. If your score was in the 70s, you should pay careful attention to the grading breakdown to see why it was in that range. Often, points were missed on things like citation or formatting errors that create a score that does not reflect the “grade” on the discussion section only. All of you should calculate your discussion section score. The discussion section is the portion of any paper that you would use for a writing sample, and it is the best gauge of how well you “get” the workings of the paradigm.
I was in the mid 80s for the whole assignment and for the discussion and I missed points on most of the rubrick items… so clearly I have some work to do (esp. given the number of markings on my once pure, clean memo) but I’m on the right track, so that’s good. We have a research assignment due tomorrow. It looks easy. Maybe I’ll start it today.
