News and notes for today.

• My weekly column Conventional Wisdom is up at fanblogs today.
• Yesterday in CivPro, Prof. Geyh, in referring to a case¹ in which a man was shot in the face while waiting to unload a delivery “quoted” the company as saying “Just wait over there and the nice man with the shotgun will help you.” — This is probably not funny unless you read the case. Also not terribly funny, except that a judge was writing it, but in the dissenting opinion CJ Fairchild wrote “Plaintiff followed defendant’s instructions and was subsequently shot in the face.” There’s just something about using the word “subsequently” with the phrase “shot in the face” that makes me laugh.
• It’s going to be a long day… we have a mandatory professionalism session right after torts. This makes me wonder… if you have to require a professionalism session, is it really going to do any good?
• Some of the lefty blogs are making a big deal about this picture — I think it’s funny.
• I know it’s been a while since I’ve talked to some of you. Sorry about that. The smart thing to do is to schedule a “phone date”, that way I can put you in my planner. I know, it sounds pretentious and silly, but it works.
  
  
• Most Importantly: It is my baby sister Ara’s 16th birthday. Everyone wish her a happy birthday in the comments. No, really. Do it.
