Orientation had a nice, slow pace to it, but I knew there was a fast-pacedness stirring underneath. The kind of thing that I’m most familiar with as a turbo-charged studying for finals at the culmination of a semester of study. The primary difference between those two, though, is that this has a certain lurking element of relentlessness. When the final is over, you’re done. Except that the ‘final’ in this case is your daily class. Every daily class. So when the class day is over, you ought to feel relief and freedom… and for about 45 seconds you do. And then you realize “Well, it’s time to start reading for tomorrow.”

Do not misinterpret — I’m really enjoying it so far. This is not a complaint, merely a statement of fact. There’s something simultaneously fleeting and permanent-feeling about it. Like the information is whizzing by at high speed, but that we’ll be cruising along at this rate forever.

After one day of class I hardly claim to have this law school thing “down”… but so far there have been no shocks, no surprises, nothing even that I wasn’t expecting. So far, so good.

Brief run-down:

Contracts: Prof seems moderately difficult, but not imposing.
CivPro: Professor is seriously hilarious. This is going to be fun.
Crim: Prof is crazy smart. You can just tell. Seems like a nice guy, but seems to have that edge to him — you really want to avoid his bad side.
Torts: Sounds a little like the SNL version of Harry Carrey, but deals with class in the standard socratic, call-on-one-person-all-period sort of way.

I’m already annoyed with people who answer questions with quotes from the book. We all read it. We all briefed it. If all you’re going to do is regurgitate, maybe we should stop wasting our time and go read for some other class.

Also: I apologize for this, but for a while some of you are just going to have to adapt to reading this instead of my normal emails/IMs. I simply do not yet have time to tell everyone about my day. Sorry about that. If you really just want to chat, try your luck with the telephone.

Good luck with everything Pete! I hope you can escape from the class routine long enough to keep playing ultimate… And hopefully I’ll get to see you someday!
