So tonight was week three of the dinner parties… we were at my place tonight. The meals are becoming more of a ‘joint effort’ with others providing most of the supporting courses/sides leaving me to just worry about the main course. Which is awesome. One of these weeks I’m going to take a week off and just eat what someone else cooks. Anyway… I was really please with how things turned out tonight.

So the menu for this evening started off with some sort of salad that Jerica/Kim brought and then on to a small sampling of Laura’s Dad’s amazing Gumbo. It was great. That prepped us for the main course… which was whitefish (trout/flounder mixture, caught by Laura’s Dad in the gulf) served over rice with a special sauce and some steamed veggies. The sauce was an adaptation of Mom’s famous alfredo sauce… and I sauteed some of Laura’s Dad’s shrimp and also some scallops we picked up from publix in a mixture of “cajun” spices, green onions, butter, wine, and olive oil… and added that to what was essentially the normal (awesome) alfredo sauce (I really need to get better at that, though) with some various spices added. It could’ve been a little better, but I was really impressed with how it turned out. I think it got better the more you ate of it. Anyway, the fish was just broiled with salt and pepper, but it was also excellent. Laura provided an eclair and some homemade ice cream (the Peanut butter ice cream was awesome) and Jerica brought the tea. So… the bottom line is that I’m stuffed… and I think it was good. But enough about the food.

In addition to Laura, Jerica, and Kim (H), Jennifer (Laura’s Roomie), and the infamous Bo were in attendance… Lindsey came later on for a while. Rach didn’t show. That bitch.

We played taboo after dinner (but before dessert — had to let it all settle) and it was hilarious. The Kims and I won.

So many great one-liners and quotes… I’m not quite sure where to begin, but you could always start with Kim’s post on the subject. I’ve got to get to bed… so anyone who was there can feel free to chime in in the comments with funny times from the evening.

My personal favorite, however, was in reference to a taboo guesser saying “Jockstrap!” and then “Sock!” Kim said… “Well, it’s a sock for something…” — I about wet myself.

Anyway… thanks to the ladies for coming over, ’twas a great time. Next week Pete’s Dinner Part will be at the eightizzle… la casa de Jer y Ho… day, time, and Menu are TBA.

SO MUCH FUN! I can hardly stand thinking of life without Pete within driving distance….and not just because he won’t be able to cook for us anymore *which will be TERRIBLE, btw*! Good food, good times, great friends….

Also….for anyone who has only met her, Jennifer is not nearly as intimidating as she looks… :) I’m glad for new friends :)

  2. That’s cool that y’all can do that. Maybe they can send you some tupperware from future parties when you bolt for the Big 10.

I know I’m a bitch for not coming. I instead made it to bed by 9:30 (since I was a bit under the weather) and awoke a glorious 11 hours later.

Additional funny moments that I remembered from Taboo:

    1.)
*after Jennifer and I had guessed “plugged”*
Lauren: a prefix that means without…
    Me: SANS…sans-plugged
    Jennifer: PLUGLESS!
*…yeah..unplugged was the word we were trying to guess…*

    2.)
    Kim H: it’s kinda like a monkey…you might call a stupid person this….
    Bo: dumb ass!
*dumb ass is now equivalent to baboon*

  5. Bo says:

Hey Jer, your mom goes to college.

And Pete loves Dr. Corson’s shorts.
