Yesterday I played ultimate on a sore foot. This was not a good idea, but we had no subs and were playing one of the top ranked teams in the league (we won). In addition, we all know that any competition that I care even remotely about is more important than my personal health and safety, so I’m certainly paying for it today. In a little bit I’m driving to B’ham to help Abby celebrate her having completed her first Boards. Go Abby.
I talked to my sister yesterday about some details for the new place, and afterward she told me a story. She works at Best Buy as a checker-outer-person (technical title) and not long ago a tall, bald, black man came through the line. Because he was tall and athletic looking my sister, ever the creative one, commented that he should play basketball. He chuckled and said, “Yeah, I should.” He paid for his stuff and went on his way. Afterward, her manager came over and said “Kecia, what did you just say to him?” My sister replied “Well, I just figured he’d be good at basketball because he’s so tall!” Her manager’s reply? “You know he plays for the Lakers, right?” She, apparently, didn’t know that the guy in her line was Brian Cook.
My sister is chock-full of stories like that… and she’s always creating new ones. Next year ought to be very, very interesting.

Reminds me of the time… not quite two days ago when a customer started going all crazy like explaining to me that “did you know who that was? mumble mumble. He plays hockey mumble mumble he’s a Hall of Famer mumble mumble.”
I mean honestly… if everyone went all crazy-like when a major celebrity went through their line up at whatever store it is, I’m sure these individuals would take their business elsewhere.
Mind you, in my defence, it’s darn hard to recognize althetes without their uniforms (or other apparel) sometimes [yes there are exceptions].
Did he get the extended warranty?
Ali…I must agree… I used to work at a karate school and one day I saw a guy dropping off his kid who looked like a famous soprts guy…looked in the computer at the kids info and sure enough where it lists parent occupation he was someone who is famous around here in sports…
He should give your sister his autograph!
CK: the entire point of this post was that my sister did not know the man was “famous.”
Someone should share some obviousity with CK. My new word. Obviousity.
Eric,
Don’t you mean obviously?
ummmm, hmmmm, huhhhh. no comment…. sorry. was going to write something, but I don’t think it can be expressed in words…
I often feel that way about CK’s comments, Matt.
