From FOXSports:

Auburn made one final case to be called the nation’s best college football team Saturday.

The Tigers became the first team to have an entire offensive backfield - two running backs and a quarterback - selected in the first round of the NFL draft since the AFL-NFL merger in 1967 and the first in the Southeastern Conference to have four first-rounders.

Tailback Ronnie Brown was the second overall pick by the Miami Dolphins and Carnell Williams went to Tampa Bay three picks later. Cornerback Carlos Rogers and quarterback Jason Campbell went to Washington with the ninth and 25th picks, respectively.

“One final case?” I hate to break it to you, Auburn… but the season is over. Has been for months. And they accuse us of living in the past. Also? Congrats on the draft picks and everything, that’s quite an accomplishment, but it does remind me a bit of Heisman debate. It’s common for Auburn fans to counter a “How many national championships do you have?” question with the “Oh, well, how many Heisman Trophy Winners do you have?” And that is summed up quite matter-of-factly by Bear Bryant, who said “Alabama players don’t win Heisman Trophies, Bama Teams win national championships.”

It’s a team sport. If you want to see individual performances check out Track & Field, Golf, or Basketball.

Now I know I am not exactly “into” sports, but last I checked basketball was a team sport - no?

If by “team” you mean that multiple people play it siumultaneously, then yes. If, by “team” you mean that it requires “teamwork” then no. It’s not.

Agreed….not at the professional level. I still think watching SOME college basketball you’ll see a fair amount of teamwork.

“Auburn deserved the national championship, so much more than Alabama has accomplished as of late without a winning season in 3 years.” Stuff like this I’m sure you’re heard before too, and this draft pick is stirring up the fire again.

But, if I recall one November evening, that same 6-6 Alabama Crimson Tide defense held Auburn’s NFL backfield to negative yardage in a quarter and 0 points in a half.

True, it’s a two half game, and Auburn racked up in the third quarter, but they were still playing a crippled Alabama line. That crippled Alabama line almost squashed Auburn’s hope for BCS, and almost certainly stopped their argument for a NC.

    Toodles, Auburn.
