UA’s CKI club has gone far too long without a little drama… so yesterday’s events were pretty much bound to happen. We achieved a CKI feat that’s unheard of in my time. Alabama’s DCON was this past weekend, and the guy who got elected Editor is from UA. Well, he’s a bit creepy. That’s fine, though… we accept the creepy folks with the rest… but he sent an email to the club reflector whining that he thought the club members were lying to him about having full vehicles and rooms regarding transportation to and housing at convention. They were pretty much baseless accusations and, while it wasn’t a highly offensive email, it was inappropriate for the reflector.

I’m sure he expected it to be publicly ignored… but it wasn’t. He got no fewer than 5 emails from club members… and not just any members, either. The folks who mailed him back was a veritable who’s-who of current UA Circle K members. Current and past club, district, and International officers… all pretty much saying the same things, suggesting that he shouldn’t blame other people for his own problems and shouldn’t send emails like that to people they don’t concern. He responded to them, and (in most cases) got responses back that were even more harsh than the first email because he kept making excuses.

Apparently this all turned out to be just too much for him, because yesterday afternoon he resigned from office and (I think) Circle K entirely. He had only been editor elect for, MAYBE, 32 hours. Now, I realize that we shouldn’t rejoice in losing members but, frankly, if the member is just going to drag everyone into his personal life with ridiculous excuse-making and finger-pointing… well… good riddance.

It was good, though… the club overcame it’s petty differences to unite behind a common banner: Don’t Send Stupid Emails to the Listserv. Representatives from pretty much every major clique within the club weighed in. The tribe has spoken.

Wow. Not quite as disturbing as a resignation after 12hrs that I know about… but nearly!

Reminds me why common sense just ain’t common…

So… can we see the text of the emails you sent to this future Darwin award winner?

I hope this guy was unopposed. I can’t imagine who he would beat.

I might be able to post them privately.

How did he ever get elected if he’s so creepy in the first place?
