Well, at least Tennessee gets something right.
A Wilson County child-court judge has been ordering foreign-born women to learn English for the good of their children � an action that some regard as unconstitutional.
In a case this week, Judge Barry Tatum insisted that an 18-year-old Mexican woman take language classes and consider using birth control.
Tatum said his admonition didn’t come out of malice or the urge to Americanize an immigrant. Instead, the judge said he worried that the woman’s 2-year-old daughter would miss out on opportunities because of her mother’s inability to communicate in English.
Of course, the multi-culturalists will insist that this is an awful thing… why on earth should anyone have to learn the native language of the place they’re moving to. All the while, most of these same people will think the French are justified in their disdain for Americans who go to France without learning French.
Seal the borders and require English competency to immigrate. Seriously.
I don’t care if they learn English or not. It’s one of those things where if they do, they’ll prove much more successful. After all, Tennessee is not known for its huge Spanish-speaking population.
So, I wonder, if they don’t want to learn English, why don’t they just move to places like southern Florida or southern Texas which have integrated Spanish into their society?
You’re neglecting the fact that this woman has a child. How is she to properly care for her child in an English speaking society if she doesn’t speak it?
