I’m not sure that ever before in my football fandom have I had a team that has gone from one of my more favored teams to one of my most despised teams… but when Lou Holtz hands over the reigns of the Gamecocks to Steve Spurrier at the end of this year, that’s exactly what’s going to happen. I really, really don’t like that man.

So what did he do to you anyway?

Hey now!! What’s that saying….oh yeah…don’t hate the player, hate the game!! I, too, thought that I would NEVER EVER see the day where I’d root for a team under the helm of Steve Spurrier, but my love for the University of South Carolina and especially the Gamecocks goes WAY BEYOND the name of the coach…I love the team, the school, the city, the atmosphere, the undying devotion of the fans of USC…it goes so much deeper than just the coach. Yes, I will desperately miss the days of Lou Holtz as I sincerely admire him in every way, but the foundation that Spurrier will be assuming is undeniably one cemented by none other than Holtz. With that said, GOOOOOOO GAMECOCKS!!! (cue the beginning of 2001…..)
