It’s official… this was possibly the worst football weekend of the season. MAN was it bad.

Alabama lost to Arkansas. I’m not going to say that we’re a MUCH better team than they are, but when you consider that pretty much all of their offense came on two drives and we sacked Matt Jones four times (which is four more times than he’s been sacked all season to date) you have to start to realize that we lost a game we should’ve won. A fumble, an interception, a true freshman trying to squeeze every inch out of downing a punt and giving up a touchback instead, etc, etc, etc. This is a game we definitely should’ve won, which makes the loss even worse.

In the NFL, Green Bay lost to Indianapolis and let Manning throw five touchdowns IN THE FIRST HALF. Houston won, so that was good… but pretty much all of the players on my fantasy team had off days and despite coming into the week outscoring my opponent by almost 50 points over two weeks, I got beat by nearly 30. Ugh.

Oh well… there’s always next weekend!

  1. I can’t believe I got sacked 4 times. I have to be more careful.

  2. Must not have been too bad if you didn’t notice until pete said something.

How about the saints? Big win in overtime even with the Deuce out of commission

  3. I couldn’t care less about the Ain’ts.

  4. Okay, how in the world did Green Bay loses to Indianapolis?

  5. Well, let me tell you about a team that has just played the best ALL season. This team is AUBURN. Look at them so good, whupping up on such names as LA-Monroe, Mississippi State, and even the high-ranked popular program, The Citadel. And let’s not forget, they even knocked off LSU, the famous returning (half) national champion. That’s why Auburn is ranked 9 ESPN, 8 AP, and why Alabama didn’t get a single vote this week.

Ok, by now you should be able to see the sarcasm drooling out of my lips. Let’s compare season stats:

    Rushing Average:
    Alabama, 5.74 yds (175 carries)
    Auburn, 5.12 yds (165 carries)

    Passing Completions:
    Alabama, 60.2%
    Auburn, 62.5%

    Passing Yds/Completion:
    Alabama, 11.8 (54 Completions)
    Auburn, 13.8 (65 Completions)

    Kickoff Return Average:
    Alabama, 31.14 yds (7 returns)
    Auburn, 21.4 yds (5 returns)

    Extra Points:
    Alabama, 100% for 18 kicks
    Auburn, 100% for 14 kicks

    Field Goals:
    Alabama, 100% for 4 att.
    Auburn, 60% for 5 att.

    Points:
    Alabama, 138
    Auburn, 115

Now, this goes to show that Auburn is ahead on its passing game, but Alabama is ahead on everything else. Auburn hasn’t scored as many points. They’ve faced 3 teams that weren’t worth the time to play, while Alabama has faced only 2 such teams, so if anything, Auburn should be ahead on point totals.

Bottom line: If Auburn had started the season unranked, they would be ranked low right now. If Alabama had started the season ranked, we still would be ranked. That’s why I’m coming out with my own ranking system, a project for a software engineering class, that doesn’t do a preseason ranking. I’ll post rankings from the program whenever we get it done, and see who really has the stronger program.

  6. It’s a shame that you’re making me do this, Brandon, because I hate defending Auburn.

Your statistics are really not that useful, and your claim that Alabama had only played two nobodies seems to neglect the fact that Ole Miss hardly beat VANDERBILT and lost to MEMPHIS. Ole Miss is a nobody, also.

Auburn beat LSU, the defending BCS Champion. Yes, the AP thought USC was better, but I think that pile of horse dung can be easily disproven (despite my intense dislike for LSU).

If Auburn had started out unranked, they most certainly WOULD be ranked right now by virtue of their win over LSU — a top 5 team.

Alabama would’ve had to have started in the top 10 (maybe top 5) to still be ranked after a loss to an unranked opponent.

There’s really no injustice here. Alabama hasn’t done anything to deserve a ranking and Auburn has.

  7. ASU is going to kill USC, you people just watch!
