Yes indeed, as Matt noted in the comments to the last post at the beginning of the spring semester there was a little pool to see who could guess when I’d miss my first class. It figures that Matt would remember this because, well, he won. I think it’s a pretty good idea, and since I don’t really consider missing yesterday a real miss we’ll start now. There’s not going to be any different categories this time, though… just when I’ll miss my first class. Here are the facts that you should consider:
1. I only have class on Tuesdays and Thursdays
2. My classes are back-to-back at 9:30 and 11:00
3. My 9:30 class has daily homework.
4. I’ve already done my homework, and reading, that’s due Tuesday.
5. I don’t plan to skip class just for the hell of it this semester.
6. I didn’t plan to skip class just for the hell of it last semester.
7. In Star Wars movies, the character Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor.
So there you go — guesses below. As for the prize… you get to revel in the fact that you can predict the future. You may have only one guess in play at a time — once that date passes, you may choose another. You can also change your guess at any time prior to the first day of class that I miss. Each day may be guessed by only one person at a time.
Guesses below.

Hmmm… you know what? I’m not going to guess at this precise moment. Why? I dunno… I think it has something do to with peanut butter. You see…
Gotta love the Chewbacca defense (and satire in general actually)…

I think I will take a stab at Sept 15. Two weeks is enough.

Rebecca: I have an exam in one of my classes (the early one) on the 14th… so the 12th will most likely be a review day. I’m not sure whether that makes me more likely to go, or less… but I just thought I’d let you know.

So nobody has got it right yet?
September 3rd, 2004 at 1:46 pm
Hmm… I’ll think about that. You actually follow a syllabus?? If your teachers are anything like mine- the exam will probably be moved anyway!
September 3rd, 2004 at 2:03 pm
They stay pretty close. It might be off by a day or two, but that doesn’t usually happen until the day before… so…
September 4th, 2004 at 12:07 am
Profs aren’t ALLOWED to not follow their syllabus here. It’s their contract with their students and must be followed unless the students vote to change it (in a regularly scheduled class period) where I am.
