Yeah, I never do this class blogging for very long, usually I don’t make it much past the first day, which is good for all of you since… well… it’d be boring as hell. If my classes were interesting, would I be posting here? No. Nevertheless, boringness awaits… onward!
I’m taking… wait for it… TWO classes this semester. Craziness.
One of them is this “Foundations of Math” class, which is supposed to be a class (targeted to education majors… hehehe) to ease the transition from calculus to theoretical math. This class was interesting because we spent virtually all of the first class doing one proof. A simple proof. Because nobody had a clue how to really do an inductive proof. Sure, they probably understood the basic idea, but this guy is hardcore with the exact wording and such for proofs, so these people were clueless. Unfortunately, given the number of people in the room who said that they had done induction before… well… he wasn’t going to help us. He just stood there and stared at us until someone who knew what the hell was going on (me) answered the question. Then he’d ask another one, listen to three wrong answers, until someone who knew what the hell they were talking about (me again) finally spoke up and put the class out of its misery. Here’s hoping he abandons that format, because it sucked.
On the positive side, I apparently know how to do logical induction better than anyone else in the class… which, if I can stay ahead, will put me well in front of the curve. w00t.
Stats 410… well… I went to class, but there was already a teacher lecturing a few minutes before class was supposed to start, so I went home to make sure I had everything right. I did, the guy just started early, I guess. Oh well. I bought the math text book… but not the stats one. A guy’s gotta eat, ya know?
So tomorrow is a big huge day of… absolutely nothing. Isn’t that fun? I thought so, too.
Over the past few days I’ve been working feverishly on a few different projects… here they are, for my amusement (because I know none of you give a shit)
1. RNC Bloggers — I handled the aggregation on the front page and the archiving of it. This was a team-effort orchestrated by Kevin at Wizbang
2. UA CKI Site — I’m working on a complete re-do of the UA Circle K site… it’s coming along slowly, but I like it. Eventually it’ll move to the REAL address.
3. Fanblogs — College football season is nearly upon us (woohoo) and we’ve got lots of nifty features scheduled for this year. First one out of the gate was The Fanblogs XIV poll… like the AP or the Coaches’ poll, but better. We’re also running a contest to get an autographed copy of Rammer Jammer Yellowhammer, which is just about the coolest college football book on the planet right now. Next week holds even MORE surprises… but first, the only game worth watching this weekend is USC at VA Tech… and that’s even questionable. The real stuff starts next weekend. Bowl, Tide, Bowl.
Hmmm… I think that’s enough for tonight. Maybe tomorrow we’ll play the comment game. Any suggestions for topics?

1. i’m only taking 3 classes this semester.
2. i don’t even know what a “proof” is. :-/
3. comment game topic idea: the olympics in 4 or 6 words.

You may not know what a proof is, but you’re also not (I hope) trying to get a job teaching my future children how to do math.

true enough. i’m thinking more along the lines of librarian or archivist. not a whole lot of calculus there.

Proofs are fun! (darn… I still ALMOST regret taking that honours math class. Only ALMOST ’cause I was taking more classes than a full course load and it was difficult enough with Stats (too easy!), Math (normal Calculus… borring and easy), physiology, psychology, immunology and virology). Math is fun!
5 classes a semester is the least I’ve ever done (and the full course load!)… but school don’t start for another… 2 weeks.
Comment game: How about School being the topic? In 4 wds? Or maybe your fav. summer olympic sport? Or something.
I used to wanna be a librarian… until I realized that I didn’t wanna do 4+ years of Library Science to get to that position. Bah!
(sorry ’bout the long comment)

Hey, are we playing the “when will Pete miss his first day of class” game this semester? Strange that I don’t remember getting my prize for winning last time! It was a fun contest though.

I see you voted the right way in that poll. Good work!!

Awesome work on the RNC bloggers site. Mucho nice @ Fanblogs, too. I feel like standing in the gallery while you whack golf balls and shouting, “You the man!”

Oh man, you guys are lucky, only taking 2 or 3 classes this semester. I am taking 5 classes with 15 credit hours. What are you all studying anyway? I know Pete is Computer Science, unless he changed his major!
