Here’s some interesting news…

Speaking during a weekend panel at San Diego’s Comic-Con convention, show producers dropped a bomb: An upcoming Simpsons story line will focus on what happens when Springfield legalizes gay marriage.

“We have a show where, to raise money, Springfield legalizes gay marriage,” producer Al Jean told comic book fans. “Homer becomes a minister by going on the Internet and filling out a form. A longtime character comes out of the closet, but I’m not saying who.”

So, OF COURSE there’s going to be wild rumor and speculation as to which one it is…

The obvious would be Smithers… but it won’t be him. Lenny and Carl are candidates for the same reason that Smithers isn’t… Rev. Lovejoy or Flanders would be ironic picks. I wouldn’t rule out one of Marge’s sisters either, or Lisa, for that matter. Good lord, they could pretty much ALL be gay — except homer, bart, or marge. Man. The possibilities are endless.

Nevertheless, this is the new PeteHoliday.com poll. Take a gander at the side bar or Go to the Polls!.

  1. During the Springfield gay pride parade either Patty or Selma is in the ’satying in the closet’ float with Smithers. So one of them is gay, but you can’t tell which because you only hear them, not see them. I don’t think it will be him, but Disco Stu would be a hilarious pick.

  2. Maybe it’ll be a cameo appearance by Eli Manning.
