He’s a funny guy, that Jon… I didn’t know he was a William & Mary graduate (class of ‘84, apparently) until Manny sent me a link to this years W&M Commencement address given by, you guessed it, Jon Stewart. Article here. Choice quotes:
I am honored to be here and to receive this honorary doctorate. When I think back to the people that have been in this position before me from Benjamin Franklin to Queen Noor of Jordan, I can’t help but wonder what has happened to this place. Seriously, it saddens me. As a person, I am honored to get it; as an alumnus, I have to say I believe we can do better. And I believe we should. But it has always been a dream of mine to receive a doctorate and to know that today, without putting in any effort, I will. It’s incredibly gratifying.
…
you’re not gonna have much trouble surpassing my generation. If you end up getting your picture taken next to a naked guy pile of enemy prisoners and don’t give the thumbs up you’ve outdid us.
There’s more, of course. Go read it. You’ll laugh… guaranteed, or your money back!

Well thats the second best graduation speech this year (I can’t put him above President Bush, who managed to work in the Chimes and “listen to your mother” into his commencement speech at LSU). Amazingly, we found someone that can get a bigger ovation on LSU’s campus than Nick Saban (who was at graduation in the audience, so we were able to compare applauses to when he walked into the crowd).
