I was fairly displeased with the last “find your spot” list, and I ventured to guess that it had something to do with me being too accommodating — I checked a lot of neutrals when I probably had an opinion one way or the other, and various things like that… so I went back and re-took the test. I also took advantage of being able to remove up to five undesirable spots from the list, getting rid of Knoxville and a few other cities that I’d never be caught dead in. So here’s the NEW and IMPROVED list. It was interesting to go through and play around with answers and see how they affected the results… feel free to refer back to the old list.

  1. Cincinnati, Ohio (Pop: 1.65m) – It didn’t matter what I did to my choices, Cinci always came out in the top 3. Maybe that should tell me something.
  2. Minneapolis-St Paul, Minnesota (Pop: 2.87m) – Minnesota, eh? Land of 10,000 lakes and ten billion mosquitos…
  3. Norfolk, Virginia (Pop: 1.55m) – I’m going to visit Kecia & Norfolk for a few days over spring break — we’ll see just how suitable it is.
  4. St. Louis, Missouri (Pop: 2.6m) – More of the midwest… I’ve never been a huge fan of St. Louis, but I don’t have anything specific against it… except a general disdain for the Rams, Cardinals, and Blues.
  5. Charlotte, North Carolina (Pop: 1.33m) – This actually wouldn’t surprise me… Charlotte seems like a neat place. Not sure why I feel that way, though.
  6. Richmond, Virginia (Pop: 966k) – Give me liberty, or give me death! Or something like that.
  7. Cleveland, Ohio (Pop: 2.25m) – Heh. Too bad I got the old rejection letter from Case Western, eh?
  8. Chesapeake-Virginia Beach, Virginia (Pop: 624k) – Last survey it was Tennessee, now it’s Virginia… that’s ok, I don’t hate Virginia.
  9. Toledo, Ohio (Pop: 618k) – If it’s worth two states warring over, it couldn’t be all bad, right?
  10. Omaha, Nebraska (Pop: 785k) – Omaha… somewhere in middle-America… heh. The only thing I know about Omaha is that it’s in a Counting Crows song… and “Mutual of Omaha” used to sponsor something I watched on TV when I was little, but I don’t remember what.
  11. Indianapolis, Indiana (Pop: 1.6m) – Then I could visit the KI Office EVERY DAY! Or maybe I could work there… they could use someone like me in the office to keep them in line.
  12. Seattle, Washington (Pop: 3.55m) – I could go watch Shaun Alexander play… and I guess I could play in the rain a lot too.
  13. Denver, Colorado (Pop: 2.1m) – I’ve been to the Airport before… it’s a nice airport.
  14. Detroit, Michigan (Pop: 4.4m) – I had no idea Detroit was this big. In fact, it’s the largest city on my list… who knew? I think I could become a Red Wings fan if I had to, although learning to give a damn about Big Ten football might be a stretch.
  15. Kansas City, Missouri (Pop: 1.77m) – FindYourSpot says that they have 90 barbecue joints. 90? Really? That’s a lot. I like food.
  16. Carlisle, Pennsylvania (Pop: 615k) – Hey! Look! A city I’ve never heard of before. Are you kidding?
  17. Charleston, South Carolina (Pop: 549k) – It was #5 on my previous list.
  18. Columbus, Ohio (Pop: 1.54m) – Well, again we have the issue of learning to care about the Big Ten… but it is Ohio, and I like Ohio.
  19. Asheville, North Carolina (Pop: 70k) – Easily the smallest town on this new list, but it was #2 on my old one.
  20. Overland Park, Kansas (Pop: 152k) – Wow… another city I’ve never heard of before… but I’d be hard pressed to name 5 cities, so that’s not really shocking.
  21. Bloomington, Indiana (Pop: 120k) – Heeeey… lookie here! It’s STILL listed, although a fair bit lower now… that’s ok, though, IU can still go ahead and accept me.
  22. El Paso, Texas (Pop: 564k) – 9 inches of precipitation a year? That’s it? Do they have camels there?
  23. Jacksonville, Florida (Pop: 1.1m) – Median age is still 32, and this is STILL Florida. Can’t complain too much about that.
  24. Long Island, New York (Pop: 2.78m) – Average home price is $300k… that’s a hell of a lot for a house. Hopefully I’ll be filthy rich if I ever move there.

Although there are still some conspicuous absences from the list (Atlanta, Chicago, DC) it’s obvious this little quiz doesn’t see me as “big city type” though, in reality, I’m likely to make the best of wherever I’m put… failing big cities, though, it would’ve been nice to see some Chicago or Atlanta suburbs on the list, though… both are great cities.

Hmm… maybe it’s time for a new poll! I picked a range of cities from the above list… of those were the only options, where should I move? Use the sidebar or go to the PeteHoliday.com polling page.
