The tournament is called “Frostbreaker” — and rightly so. The temperatures this weekend were in or around the 80’s, and the sun was out (as evidenced by the lovely shade of red that I am today). A big Thanks to Tess, Eric, and Especially wonder-poster Amy for keeping the place busy in my absence. Speaking of guest posts, I have a funny story.

After our first two games on Saturday (at which point we were 1-1) I saw that I had a voicemail. I checked it, and it was my father saying something like “Give me a call back and tell me more about the alsk ljklaowejc.” I literally had to listen to the message four times to figure out that he didn’t actually say “alsk ljklaowejc” and what he had actually said was “car accident.” I was a bit confused, as he seemed to be implying that I had been in an accident that I needed to tell him about.

I called home, hoping that they could tell ME a little more about this alleged car accident and spoke to my mother, who informed me that my father had read about the accident on my website. The post to which he was referring, of course, was Tess’ “Oh Vanity!” post. After informing my father that I had not written that, and clearing up the confusion, my only question was… “Did you REALLY think I’d name my car ‘Kermitta?’” I mean, there’s nothing wrong with the name, but my truck looks nothing like a “Kermitta” and that’s not a very Pete-like name, anyway. My father’s response? “You’re in college, so you do weird things.” Point taken, I guess.

At any rate, the weekend was good – we went 4-3 on the weekend, losing by VERY small margins. I had a very solid weekend of play, including some valient efforts in our last loss. We were down by two when the game was “capped.” Usually games are played to a score (”First one to 15 wins”) but they’re also under a time constraint (”First one to 15, or 60 minutes”) At the time limit, th game is “capped” and a certain number (in this case, 2) is added to the higher score, and the game is played to that instead. In this game we were down 10 to 12 when the game was capped, so it was now a game to 14 instead of 15. I managed to get a huge lay-out D on a guy that we converted into a score, and also threw a 60 yard prettiest-throw-I’ve-ever-made score to Billy — but those were the only two scores we got… so we lost 14-12.

The losses really annoyed me, because we were up in all of the games, pissed away leads, and fell apart at the end. (just like Alabama athletics, I think) In all of the games we also staged some good come-backs after losing our lead, but it was always too little, too late. Unlike the Mardi Gras tournament, where I was very put-off by my play on Sunday morning, I was happy with it all the way around… so that makes the losses a bit easier to take. Nevertheless, we SHOULD’VE won all of our games.

I got back into town around 10:30 last night and nearly fell down the stairs. The outside hamstring tendon in my left leg (I’m sure it has a fancy name, like “Andover Von Buren, IV”) started bothering me before the games on Sunday, but I put some kind of magical ointment on it, took some advil, and played two more games. After the games were over, it stopped liking me. By the time I had driven eight hours it had time to tighten up significantly. My first step down the stairs with my bags was particularly painful (as I was not paying attention to anything but wanting a shower and to go to bed) and I almost fell down for the shock of it. This would have been VERY funny, but luckily I was graced with my father’s patented cat-like reflexes, and I caught myself before I had a funnier story to tell.

So now it’s back to work. Lots and lots to do this week, as has been the custom for the last two.

In law school news, I did not come home to a rejection letter (thankfully), but I did get a notice from UCLA that my file is complete — maybe they’ll actually cash my check now. Georgetown’s app is complete also (has been for several days). So I guess it’s only a matter of time (UCLA says that they’ll send out decisions by the end of May… gee thanks… no rush on that, or anything). Indiana should decided any time now, and Alabama still has some time since I just sent in that app not long ago. Stanford, of course, is still rolling around on the floor of their meeting room trying to gain enough composure to send me a form rejection letter. Let’s hope they get on that soon. I hear that some of my detractors have been less than entertained by my lack of failures recently.
