Michele at A Small Victory has, once again, demonstrated great bravery and trust by publishing a username and password to her blog and allowing the world to post whatever they feel like posting.

I decided to take advantage of a wider audience (she has roughly 47,000 times as many readers as I do) to complain about a commercial I’ve heard on 95.7 Jamz.

Twice in the past week I’ve heard a commercial on the local “Urban” station (don’t ask) imploring people not to ignore bums and beggars on the street. The DJ tells us that he guarantees that that guy needs it more than anyone we know. Guarantees. He then tells us that it will come back to us 10-fold.

This annoys me. There are no shortage of people to help in the world, but just because a bum MIGHT be needy, doesn’t mean (s)he is. Just because someone MIGHT be needy doesn’t mean we should help them. Give your dollar that you don’t need to a shelter. Give it to Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Give it to me.

Why on earth would a radio station run a PSA like that? Did they run out of real PSA’s and need something to make their quota? Whatever the reason, it annoys me.

Surely someone else has heard this commercial, right?

Oh Pete, don’t worry…go ahead and donate funds to your favorite local bum. I’m sure they will be put to good use…at the liquor store around the corner…

Shiiiit. If my dollar is going to the liquor store, I’m going with it.

I’m more upset by the women’s hygene products the STD commercials. Ever notice there are a few women in both of them?

Good point Eric, I myself have always wondered how much one could get paid for appearing in a herpes commercial! I’ll have to look into it…zovirax anyone?
