Last year’s Dead Pool went a long time without recording any deaths. Not so this year… we’re a little over three weeks in to 2004 and there have already been 3 “Scores.”
A headline at a DiVERSiONZ blogging headlines round-up stated “Blogger reveals that only one person has Joe Namath in celebrity death pool” referring to the ATS Dead Pool. As you might remember, I have Joe Namath… so I strolled on over to find that I had passed right over my first piece of ATS Dead Pool fame: “If he could save time in a bottle, he’d drink it.” Now, before you ‘Bama fans get all riled up, let me say that I will be saddened if Broadway Joe dies… but I had to be objective.
This made me wonder… hmmm… do I have any OTHER solo shots in the dead pool? Let’s find out!
Well I picked the top three — some obvious ones — Reagan, the Pope, and Arafat… all of whom were picked over 60 times.
Other than those, there were four picks that had more than ten: Ozzy Osbourne, Margaret Thatcher, Alonzo Mourning, and Richard Pryror…
Michael J. Fox and Mike Wallace both had 6 pick them, and Yogi Berra was picked by 7.
Near-misses include Bob Done (2 besides me) and Claude Levi-Strauss (Only one other person, damnit).
That leaves three picks: Tommy Lee, Hugo Chavez, and Joe Namath that nobody else picked.
So 20% of my picks were unique… and 33% were really close to unique… so I guess that makes me a relatively creative thinker when it comes to picking who’s going to die in 2004.
Yay?
