WWMLKD?

I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

Amen to that. He was a great man who did great things. It’s a pity that folks like Jesse Jackson have to work so hard to undo his legacy.

And let’s not forget Affirmative Action which is, to be certain, not judging people by the “content of their character.”

How far we come from King’s day… but how far we’ve yet to go. Let’s hope Howard Dean succeeds in educating white people about race issues.

Affirmative action is about ameliorating the effect that systemic racism has on Blacks.

    …are some type of racist?

  2. Nona says:

You’re totally coming off my blogroll

The more I read the more respect I loose for your blog!

    Yuck.

  3. Pete says:

Affirmative Action, Nona, is a program where minorities are given priority based on nothing more than their skin color.

In what kind of twisted, hypocritical sense of morality is that even a vaguely proper notion of “right?”

Affirmative Action is about racial prejudice. I’m a firm believer that minorities in this country are perfectly capable of acheiving on their own, without hand-outs from the left.

Claiming a need for Affirmative Action, in my mind, is akin to saying that minorities can’t do it on their own… and there are few things more racist than that.

…Let me, also, point out the supreme absurdity of someone accusing me of being racist for saying that folks ought not be judged based on their race.

I usually take accusations like those much more seriously but this was clearly a thoughtless knee-jerk reaction to anyone who says that Affirmative Action is wrong or bad. Such reactions speak volumes about an individual’s level of intellectual maturity.

  5. Nona says:

    blah, blah, blah

  6. Pete says:

    “blah, blah, blah” indeed.

We forgive you for being new, but around here your point is only as strong as the reasoning you back it up with. Spouting cliches isn’t enough… and dismissing, prima facie, valid arguments doesn’t do much for your case.

I love debates… so if you really believe in Affirmative Action, and know what you’re talking about, you’re more than welcome to post whatever liberal nonsense you’d like.

Hell, if you can make a case for affirmative action using facts and logic and without resorting to ad hominem, I’ll post that bad boy on my front page.

I’m guessing, however, that you’re not adequately armed for that sort of battle.

All I have to say is that if I wasn’t white I would be attending University of Michigan right now instead of Illinois State…damn 15 points!

  8. Pete says:

Quit being a racist Jo… don’t you know that wanting people to be treated equally is racist?

  9. Jo says:

Yes please forgive me, I am a heinous racist for thinking that whomever is most qualified for jobs should get them regardless of color…I’m such a bastard!

  10. Ali Kira says:

I’m not a fan of affirmative action (as it is in practice especially) either. Sure, I’ve been discriminated against racially countless times… but affirmative action is not, in my mind, the answer.
Not only that, but have you noticed that those of mixed racial backgrounds are out of luck when it comes to scholarships that benefit visible minorities? WE may be visible minorities in practice but on paper we’re not acceptable qualification-wise.
Even if these were to reward people for having survived the idioticy that is discrimination, slurs, attacks (physical and verbal etc.) and so on based on race, I would wholeheartedly think that they had failed miserably.
