Some of you probably roll your eyes every time you see anything even remotely political, but that’s alright. You can skip this post if you want, there’s nothing inherently insightful in it.
I saw over at Right Voices, Bill Hobbs, and Ipse Dixit that some of the Blogs for Bush folks are putting the blogroll on their sidebar in hopes of spreading the good word about the upcoming election AND getting all of the blogrollers for Bush higher in the Google rankings.
This is a great idea, BUT, it seems some of the folks out there who are doing this are using the Javascript include of the actuall blogroll. Now, I could be wrong, but I’m fairly certain that Google (and most other crawlers/spiders/etc) don’t run Javascript code on the pages, therefore, they never expand out the blogroll and, therefore, never index the link. SO… if you’re one of those folks, make sure you either copy/paste the actual HTML (this will require some updating from time to time) OR just use the PHP include.
