Lest anyone think I’m losing my firm grip on logic and reason in favor of a more emotional approach, allow me (for just a moment) to speak to the issue that has sports columnists creating little messes in their pants: the USC/LSU debate.

For any thinking person in the world, there is no debate except, maybe, that we should have a play-off system so this shit doesn’t happen.

Some folks would argue that Oklahoma had no business playing LSU for the title… but they did. Those same folks are the ones sitting round right now claiming that USC is a “co-champion”… you can’t have it both ways: USC didn’t make the title game, they’re not the title holders. The fact that they stomped on Michigan says nothing about how they compare to LSU or OU because (sorry Amy) those two teams would’ve done the same. Maybe worse. Probably worse.

Does LSU deserve the NC? Well… the players do. The fans most certainly don’t. Do I like the fact that LSU won? Not at all… as I stated before, I can’t even bring myself to be happy that the SEC has another national title. But you know what? Much to my dismay… they won the damn thing anyhow. Saban’s a good coach, they had some good talent, and they had a good year. Everyone has them. This was LSU’s turn.

Make no mistake, however, LSU is the National Champion… USC is a footnote. (Private note to Mr. Pete Carrol: how ’bout scheduling someone worth a shit next year? That might help.)

PS: This is still an LSU-Free Zone. Don’t test me.

I disagree. I think we could have beaten Oklahoma.

I also disagree that LSU is THE National Champion. LSU is THE BCS National Champion, but there are two polls curently accepted as determining the NC. If the entire world decided that they will abide by the results of one poll only, then I would agree.

  2. Pete says:

Of course you think so… but you probably also thought you\’d beat USC. It would\’ve been a close game, maybe, but OU would\’ve won because they, too, would\’ve shut down Chris Perry. And one has to wonder if UM would\’ve gotten any rushing yards against LSU\’s defense.

But regardless, USC is the 3rd place team, whether they\’re ranked there or not. The only reason there\’s even a discussion is because OU lost late in the season… had they lost to \’Bama instead USC wouldn\’t even be in the picture, regardless of how bad we were this year.

  3. Amy says:

    I didn\’t know if we\’d beat USC.

And it\’s funny how my speculations are wrong, and your speculations are right. Since after all, they are nothing more than speculations.

Regardless of the rank of USC in your mind, to the world they are co-national champions.

  4. Pete says:

When talking about UM your speculations are always suspect because they\’re about the farthest thing from objective you can get.

As far as you speaking on behalf of \”the world\” (only a small portion of which even cares about college football) there\’s a national champion, that champion is the team that wins the \”Bowl Championship Series\”. That team is LSU.

The sportswriters disagree, but they\’ve never really proven to know much about sports anyway.

    Lets not fight now, children.

    Meanwhile, GO BUCKS! Hahahaha.

  6. Pete says:

Oh lord… here it goes… it\’s going to turn into the biggest comment thread ever as everyone tosses in their own school.

If I see \”go\” spelled funny, big fonts, images, or anything else obnoxious, though, I\’m going to have to hurt someone.

    Roll Tide.

  7. Bobby says:

    Do you mean GEAUX?? :)

Sean had a comment on a blog that was attributed to LSU\’s chanchelor that basically said this: \”USC won the popular vote and LSU won the system in place to determine who is the champion. Just like Al Gore won the popular vote and you see where that got him.\”

    Thought that to be interesting.

Thin ice, Mr. Schroeder, thin ice…

Last Sept., everybody lusted for the crystal football. Why? Because it signified who the national champ was. Can’t change the rules after the process occurs. LSU is the champ. USC is an asterisk.
