Previously, my individual posts were displayed by pulling them out of the database and producing them “on the fly.” The one major draw-back to that is that Google doesn’t seem to like indexing files more than once. So individual posts never seemed to get archived. I’ve changed, however, to a “published” archive format, where each archive has it’s own file. I’ve also moved all of the archive related functions into a separate directory. This might not mean a damn thing to anyone, but it does mean that old permalinks have changed — they should be backwards compatible, though.

It also means that something may be broken. If you find such a thing, please let me know. Thanks!

Dude! I am so not going back and fixing links. So.

  2. Pete says:

snicker It\’s alright… the journal.php links will still work — it just redirects to the appropriate archive. ;)

Let me see if I understand this correctly…

You\’re changing the archive format so that Google will capture them and (presumably) send more traffic over your way.

Since when does Pete care about his popularity? ;)

Well, there were other reasons too, like server load for when I become a megastar — can\’t have all of those entries served right out of the DB, of course…

The reason I want google to index me is because I get a kick out of watching my search referrals. :)

Are you planning to hard code the comments into the archived entries? If you are, I think it would be a lot of fun to comment something along the lines of \”PAM ANDERSON SUCKING ON A LOLIPOP\”. That stuff makes google happy.

  6. Pete says:

I intend for the entries to show comments and trackbacks eventually… so I\’m sure that comment WILL make google smile. :)

  7. Pete says:

Well… eventually is here. Now they\’re inline. Nifty, eh?
