Note: Alarm clocks with battery backup do absolutely no good unless the battery is actually connected to the alarm clock. Simply placing it in the little compartment is not enough.

I learned that today. I hit snooze a few times (as is custom), the last time being shortly after 8:00am, and after falling asleep was awakened by a large clap of thunder. It sounded as if we lost power, but when I looked up I that the CD player was on so, content in my battery backup, I went back to sleep, expecting to be woken shortly. I was did wake up again, but it was after 9:00. Quite confused, but resigned to the fact that I had missed my 9:00am, I decided to set the clock again, set the nap timer, and crawl back in my warm bed.

Unfortunately, we apparently lost power AGAIN between 9:00am and 9:30, and I woke up around noon. It didn’t occur to me until AFTER I had gotten up and taken a shower that maybe, JUST MAYBE, the battery in the clock wasn’t dead, just not connected. Why was it like that? Well, there’s no sense in using the battery backup when you move… when I came back to Tuscaloosa from the Land of Corn I disconnected the battery to save it. I never reconnected it again when I got back.

It’s connected now, though.

(Aside: my computer had be up, running, and on AIM, for 23 straight days… darn power-outage ruined my streak.)

What a start to the day… although I can’t complain too much, I didn’t have to go to class! Now I’ve just gotta go put a few hours in at work and I’m good to go.

Happy Weekend, everyone!
