We’ve known for quite some time that my below-average GPA but significantly above average LSAT was a statistical anomaly. One might even go so far as to call it “weird.” I have, however, been optimistic about my odds at schools given my extra-curriculars and ability to write a good personal statement. Today, despite having decided against it previously, I went and talked the UA’s Pre-Law advisor. I figured it wouldn’t hurt to hear what he had to say, even if I eventually disregarded it.
He wasn’t quite as optimistic as I have been, but he did present some interesting options. Providing this semesters grades are good (and it looks like they will be), he said delaying applying until they’re in (or, at the very least, requesting that a school not evaluate my transcript until January) could really help my chances. He also said that delaying a whole year could be helpful — two full semesters of good grades. That would push back my law school admitance to Fall of ‘05. The third option, he mentioned, was to apply go to the best school I got into, and transfer to one with a good Tech Law program for my second year.
In the end, however, he said he really didn’t know and that I should just call the admissions officers at the schools I’m looking at applying to and see what they think.
These are all new perspectives so I’m mulling them over. In addition, I’m going to be making HALF of my law school visits next month (bank account willing) — right now the tentative plan is to head out to LA on Oct 15, and back the following Sunday. There would be visists to law schools and LA nightlife. Can’t beat that.
