Face it, it’s not the fault of the video game industry, the music industry, the movie industry, or the local industrial supply store when two teenagers go out and shoot at cars because they played it in a video game. Why, then, is the grieving family of a 45 year old man who was killed by aforementioned teenagers suing the makers of Grand Theft Auto?

Let’s be real honest here. This isn’t about fault or cause, it’s about money. Rosemary Hamel, mother of the victim Aaron Hamel, COULD be suing the parents of the boys, who should have been more cognizant of their sons’ video game choices and behavior. She’s not. She’s suing the maker of a video game. Why? Can anyone say “deep pockets?” I sure can. My guess is that Take Two Interactive has a bit more money than they boys’ parents.

Nothing trivializes death so much as its exploitation. Congratulations, Ms. Hamel. I hope you’re proud of yourself.
