I got a little sun yesterday at the game. I mean that in the same way that the Titanic “took on a little water”. It was worth it, though, to see Shula’s first game and an impressive second half at that. The first half was a bit scary, but we pulled through.

Also nice was to see USC take the wind out of Auburn’s sails. All the hype, all the chest pounding, all the preening was worth approximately zero points. USC embarrassed Auburn on the plains and their performance does NOT bode well for their season. Then again, I’ve been saying it ever since the Sporting News ranked AU #1 based on the fact that they have four good tailbacks and some good receivers. First, four tailbacks or forty, you can only use one at a time. Second, someone has to be able to throw to the receivers. A few years ago I recall some rumors that Tommy Tuberville was going to leave Auburn. I was really disappointed, despite the fact that Tuberville is a good coach. The fact of the matter is that he’ll always be a good coach, but never a great coach. He’s a good recruiter, but he’ll never be a great recruiter. He’ll contend for conference titles, but rarely (if ever) a national title. And that’s just where we want the Aubies. Good enough to get their hopes up, but never good enough to deliver.

ROLL TIDE.

  1. Roll Tide

  2. You left out that 4 tailbacks is only good if you can get more than 75 net yards out of them combined

  3. Sean, that\’s all a part of Tommy Tuberville\’s master plan to go 7-5 with the best auburn team assembled in many, many years.

If they keep playing like they did Saturday, he\’ll have trouble getting 7 wins.

  4. See, I\’m evil - I liked it whenever Bama or Auburn lost when I lived there. Of course I used to have a motive for wanting Bama to lose - it was less likely that my neighbors would make noise, and I am a quiet bat. (Grad students are such dull old farts, I know, I know.) But that was before I lived in the Place of Quiet Apartments Full of Mute Neighbors. It was almost freaky how quiet it was there. Great for studying tho…

  5. Batty, Batty, Batty… what a bad little Tide Fan you were… I\’ll make some EXTRA noise next time we win, just for you. :)
